A Guide to Teaching English Abroad in the Galapagos Islands

Why Teach English Abroad in the Galapagos Islands?

The islands bring many foreign tourists, so residents with English skills tend to get jobs first. When you teach English abroad in the Galapagos Islands, you’re helping local communities progress. Apply for ESL jobs in the Galapagos Islands to help your students gain important skills. Now you may be a teacher, but you’ll want to learn how to protect your new home too. The Galapagos are an important center for research, and teachers are also devoted to preserving the biodiversity of this magical place.

An entire “cast of characters” exists outside the classroom in the Galapagos Islands. Check out the iguanas at Baltra, the wild penguin on Bartolome, or the sea lions at Darwin Island. Take your students outside! You may get a better look at the island’s species as you hike the kiddos up the Sierra Negra volcano or kayak through flamingo lagoons.

Teaching jobs in the Galapagos Islands are full-on nature immersion! Unplug, and come teach where the grass is always greener.

Three weeks volunteering in Siem Reap

I spent three weeks volunteering at Salariin Kampuchea Learning Center in Siem Reap, where I helped teach English to younger students and supported the development of their social media presence. It was one of the most enriching experiences I’ve ever had. Some days were more challenging than others—adapting to a new environment and finding ways to communicate across cultures. But what I’ll carry with me, more than anything, is the deep sense of connection I felt with the people. I can confidently say I’ve grown and learned so much, and that’s something I’ll always be grateful for. Living and working within the local community gave me a complete perspective shift. I was struck by their warmth and generosity, and the quiet strength with which they face life. From the very beginning, I felt welcomed. The children, the staff, and my host family made me feel included from the start, making it easy to feel at home throughout my time there
