Youth For Understanding (YFU) in Canada is part of the global network, YFU, which has more than 50 partner organizations and offices worldwide. The nonprofit, international organization started in the United States in 1951. Our roots spread in Montreal, Canada in 1985 and covered more of the country in 1995 by opening an office in Cambridge. Over the years, we have sent 400 students to more than 30 countries through exchange programs. We have also welcomed interns from Venezuela, Denmark, France, and other European countries.
YFU Canada primarily sends students to partner countries, but we also have exchanges in most of the countries where we have offices. At the same time, we welcome participants from other countries and provide them a homestay program. They live with a Canadian family, attend a local school, and meet new friends. With the assistance of volunteers, our staff introduces them to Canada’s culture and school life.
