Voluntary Service International (VSI) is an Ireland-based branch of the Service Civil International, a global peace movement founded in 1920. VSI was started in 1965 after running numerous projects in the late 1950s. Since then, we have organized a broad range of community and voluntary work across Ireland. We have also sent volunteers to several projects in more than 60 countries across the globe.
Our aim at VSI is to foster peace, intercultural understanding, sustainable development, and social justice through volunteering in the country and overseas. As a member organization, all our recent programs - such as the Africa Asia Latin America Programme, International Volunteer Projects Programme, and the Long-Term Volunteering Programme, among others - are run by a group of volunteers who receive support from our staff team. We hold an Annual General Meeting, which usually happens in November, to choose a National Committee from the membership. This committee oversees our organization’s work year on year.
