Launched officially in Incheon on 19 October 2011, the United Nations Office for Sustainable Development (UNOSD) is an organization that backs UN Member States in planning and executing sustainable development strategies through partnerships, training, research, and knowledge sharing. The UNOSD also supports the implementation of sustainable development agreements. The Office is housed in Yonsei University and sponsored by the University, the City of Incheon, the Korean Ministry of Environment, and the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UN-DESA).
The UNOSD has a knowledge portal providing information related to sustainable development and its three pillars: environmental protection, improvement of quality of life, and economic growth. The Office serves as a resource center that offers capacity building and training through the organization and delivery of programs for major groups and national representatives from developing nations. These programs help further any agenda on sustainable development, as well as boost the implementation of targets and goals.
