Sustainable Roots is an organization that takes a unique approach to community development. We work with the needs and strengths of community members finding the best course of action to implement programs working toward positive effectual change.
To date, our efforts have been largely focused on education and empowerment of youth in our target community and have yielded some amazing results. We have recently expanded our environmental efforts and expect the same progress over time.
Volunteers can work in one of two branches, English or Environment. For short-term volunteers we offer the opportunity to help with the long term volunteers or to choose their own project to carry out.
Education volunteers are in charge of teaching English classes in the grade school in Cosanga and nearby Baeza. They also teach two after school classes, one focused on homework help and fun learning and one focused on English teaching.
Environmental volunteers are in charge of our reforestation efforts, maintaining the gardens and aquaponics system at the volunteer housing and environmental education programs.
