Great all round learning and living experience

I spent a week at SOFI64 in December '16 and I couldn't have asked for a better experience. Steph is an excellent teacher and Zoe the host super warm and both went out of their way to make my course and stay fabulous. Before I arrived for my week-long course I was a little nervous as I thought immersion programs and host-family stays were perhaps more suited to students but I thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of it, improved my French, met some lovely people and had a great holiday to boot.
My aim for the course was to improve my conversational French as I'm on holiday there at least twice a year. I learnt French at school which was more focused on writing and reading. As a working professional having to take days off to travel to France for this program, it was great to find a course that could let me make such improvements over just a week.
Starting with the French: I had the one-to-one lessons over a week with Steph. Over just a week I was able to improve vastly in my weakest areas i.e. listening and speaking. Steph was very astute in picking up particular areas where I needed thorough work and she knew exactly what exercises to put me through, and had relevant materials at the ready. Very impressive and she is also most enthusiastic and warm which are great qualities to really engage you.
I stayed with my host Zoe a very short bike ride from the school. She is an experienced host and very kind, warm and easy to talk to. I enjoyed our numerous chats over meals at home.
The location of the school is ideal, on a small square within a few hundred metres of the beach. I loved the vibe of the area, as it's not super touristy (it's a short bus ride to Biarritz centre), and locals were so friendly and easy to speak with in French. I also went to the local supermarket and local pool a 10-min bike ride away, and I really felt like I was living there. I've been to France on holiday at least twenty times now and never before have I felt so much like this. Highly recommended for the quality of teaching, the friendliness of everyone around me and just how immersive it was.
Will be back again when I can scrape together enough leave off work.
Look no further

"This is an absolutely amazing place, you instantly get this feeling that this is something special and it surely isn’t the last time you came here" I overheard a business couple say at the airport on my way back home after I spent 4 weeks there and it I think this perfectly sums up my thoughts not only on the BAB (Biarritz – Anglet - Bayonne) area but also on my course at SOFI64.
I needed to immerse my French skills as, since I am out of university, I have to pick my holidays carefully and make sure I use my times off wisely. I chose Sofi64 because I already knew the area and the director of the school from when I first went there eight years ago (and two times after that).
The host families are chosen very carefully by the language school (unlike many other schools) and according to your wishes and needs. I couldn’t have been happier with my host family and I am afraid they will have to put up with me again soon. I was able to follow all of my regular sport activities (running, crossfit) and of course enjoy a few good surf sessions.
I think I don’t need to say anything about the food in France and especially in the Basque area as it is known to be one of the best in the world. You can go anywhere and just can’t go wrong.
As for the French classes, SOFI64 is a no-brainer. I already took French classes almost all over Europe but nothing gets even close to the experience I have had at SOFI64. You not only get to know the language but also love the language. The very relaxed, very patient and fun attitude of the teachers makes you understand the language very quickly and without frustration. Questions are always encouraged, mistakes make you learn and sweets make the teachers and the other students very happy. Even after classes people meet up somewhere and activities are organized that make you practice what you’ve learned in the morning and make you feel more confident about your skills very quickly. I honestly think this is the best learning experience I have ever had.

I was 2 months @ SOFI64 and it was just perfect for me. I liked the style of the school because it is small and we were like a family. During class time I learned a lot because Steph was always well prepared and I truly appreciated her enthusiasm. I could feel that teaching is her passion and to have a teacher like her makes it much easier to learn the subject. When I had a question regarding French or other things she always took her time to help me out.
My host family was booked over the school and it worked out perfectly. I couldn't have had a better family. :)
Regarding the location: Awesome!! I felt in love with this place. It is chilled, beautiful, interesting,... and the people are so kind.
For my next French course I would definitely choose SOFI64 again!!! Thanks for everything!!

French and Surf

I had a two week French&Surf course at Sofi64 and enjoyed it very much. Not only do you have a great learning environment at the lovingly decorated school but also have motivated teachers that really care for you making progress. When I was there in June, we were a class of only 4 students and thus learnt a lot, especially regarding oral expression (what I think is the most important part). Apart from school, I also did the daily surf course, which took place at the beach nearby at the surf school of John, who also was very nice and tried to make the stay as relaxed as possible. Surf classes were great with our teacher Rafa and the beaches in Anglet are perfect for beginners.
I want to give my thanks to Steph, the owner of the school, for taking such good care of her students and for making it an unforgettable experience. Also thanks for all the coffee , chocolatines and tartes we were enjoying each day :-) I can totally recommend Sofi64 and would return directly for another course if only I had the time...
