Rancho Mastatal is a permaculture farm and education center, as well as a community and lodge, focused on environmental stability and meaningful livelihoods. The center was established in 2001 with the aim of providing a place where people come together to learn the huge importance of responsible coexistence with nature while helping provide economic stability to a small community. We are found in Mastatal - a rural farming town on the border of the last remaining virgin rainforest in Puriscal County, Costa Rica.
We offer a range of programs - guest experiences, residential workshops, and innovative apprenticeships - to visitors and participants. Our location amidst breathtaking natural surroundings makes for a great setting to practice Spanish or immerse in Costa Rican culture. Rancho Mastatal teaches and promotes renewable energy, fermentation, natural building, agroforestry, permaculture design, and other related topics. Lessons and activities take place in a beautiful campus that spans over 300 acres of stunning wilderness and natural habitats.
