Raise Uganda Now (RUN) is a nonprofit organization with a history going back to 2012, when Joon Yang (one of the founders) visited young students and orphans in previously known "Ocien’s Orphanage" and "Ocien's Academy". In 2014, he took the initiative to improve these centers and incorporate them into Raise Uganda Now together with classmate Haley Baker. Today, RUN organizes programs focused on providing support to children living in situations of food insecurity, lack of education, and extreme poverty.
We operate RUN Orphanage, which offers shelter to 25 kids whom many have lost their parents to various circumstances - including addiction and HIV/AIDS. Several of them live in the streets of Kampala, scrounging or begging for food before winding up in RUN. Hence, we are committed to giving them a safe and caring environment to help them experience a healthy and enjoyable childhood. We transferred in January 2017 to Nankoma village in the Bugiri district to stay closer to a public school capable of offering our children good academic training.
