Alternative break experience

Through an Alternative Break Program at my university, I was able volunteer in the community of Santa, Julia Nicaragua via PSE. The volunteer experience was amazing. I got to help meet one of the community's basic needs while having fun interacting with the kids, learning their culture and taking part in fun tourist things along the way! PSE made sure we were always using our time wisely: Our schedules were planned down to the minute. PSE also made sure we were safe everywhere we went. PSE gave me the wonderful opportunity to volunteer in the amazing Santa Julia community. I would never be able to make so many great friendships if it wasn't for this organization. I am very grateful for that. I hope to go back in the future and continue to help the community grow.

JSC alternative break 2014

This experience with PSE was my first introduction to Nicaraguan people, culture, and communities. Our guides were so knowledgeable and were able to answer all of the one thousand questions we had throughout the week. Our project included carrying tubes to be inserted in to the earth to carry clean water into the community of El Limonal, digging for the tubes, burying them, and having the chance to hook up smaller lines and spouts in a number of homes. We worked right along side community members, also people who would benefit from the water pipes. La Omaha was a amazingly nice place to stay, that exceeded our entire groups expectations. Meals were delicious and gave us a taste of real Nicaraguan cuisine! PSE kept our week packed with cultural, educational, and volunteer experiences.

Spring break

A group of nursing students and myself went for spring break. We were able to volunteer our time in clinics and work with the doctors in the community. We had an awesome experience with Panorama and I highly recommend the medical brigade with them!
