Authentic Nursing Experience Abroad!
April 11, 2025by: Morgan Bass - United StatesProgram: Medical Mission Trips - GhanaI had the pleasure of spending a short time in Kumasi, sight seeing, volunteering at a local hospital, and spending time forming relationships with my host family and others. I feel that OGVO provides an excellent opportunity for anyone who may want to be immersed in the Ghanaian culture, and experience life as the Ghanaians do. I was both challenged and blessed throughout my short-duration there and would highly recommend this organization for anyone wanting to volunteer in Ghana and experience and learn of the culture. I also have to give honor to the program Director Frank Odoi who is exceptional. His assistance and communication with his volunteers ensuring their safety, comfort, and great experience during their stay spoke volumes. I am beyond grateful for the time spent, and even more so for the people I've gotten to meet at my host home, as well as the wonderful nurses I've connected with at my project site. If you're looking to affordibly tour or volunteer in Ghana, OGVO is the way to go!
Wonderful experience
April 04, 2025by: Angelina Gyapomaa - United StatesProgram: Medical and Healthcare Programs in GhanaMy experience at Tafo Government Hospital was exceptional. The program manager, Mr. Frank, was extremely helpful. The nurses and doctors were nice and supportive. Kumasi is one of the best cities in Ghana with many rich cultures. There are so many places to visit as a tourist. The king's palace was one of my favorite places to visit. I was impressed with the outcome of this trip.

A typical vague, diplomatic response to this question would be along the lines of: “to fulfill a sense of global responsibility by learning about and empowering communities to empower themselves.” The problem is, vague, diplomatic responses don’t help people, such as prospective interns make good life decisions. Like most things in life, the truth is more complex, and less cheesy, than the typical answer.

Having a humanitarian-driven heart means that I want to use my life to serve others. As such, I originally intended to travel to Ghana in order to complete a community development service project with my school in the impoverished area of Nabdam. When deciding to embark on this endeavour through my school, I decided that I wanted to maximize the positive impact that I could make whilst there, and therefore I decided to research volunteer programs that I could join after my school trip finished.

I wanted to check off two major things on my bucket list: participate in some type of volunteer mission abroad, and go on a solo adventure to a foreign country. I had just completed my first year of graduate school, so the timing was perfect. Furthermore, I was curious about healthcare services in a less developed country, and seeking the challenge of traveling alone to test my limits.
