What an experience!
by: Carola Niederhauser - SwitzerlandProgram: Microfinance Internships & Volunteering Program in GhanaIn the time that I spent in Ghana, I became a totally integrated member of the host family and of the community. But also in the office, my colleagues at work integrated my very well in their team, in their daily routine and all the work.
What a wonderful time!
by: Andrew Kotz - United StatesProgram: Medical and Healthcare Programs in GhanaI had the most fun time volunteering with OGVO! I did the volunteer Dental program at WillBen Dental Clinic, and couldn't have been happier with my experience. All the staff were exceedingly friendly, and were always happy that I was there to learn. My host family was probably the best part of my experience. I stayed with Bella, and her three wonderful children. It was such a blessing to have such a great host family that always stayed up talking to me, and making sure I was having a great time ...
Tree planting in Ghana!
by: Glen Thompson - United KingdomProgram: Environmental Conservation Projects in GhanaI had wanted to do some environmental work but never seemed to manage it. After Covid, I decided to go for it! I liked the look of OGVO as they seemed well organised and the prices were realistic so I bit the bullet. I was so happy I did! The registration process is very easy and Frank provided a letter of invitation so that I could get a visa for Ghana. As promised, he picked me up at the airport and took me to my placement, which was actually quite a long way away. Once I got there, I was t...

A typical vague, diplomatic response to this question would be along the lines of: “to fulfill a sense of global responsibility by learning about and empowering communities to empower themselves.” The problem is, vague, diplomatic responses don’t help people, such as prospective interns make good life decisions. Like most things in life, the truth is more complex, and less cheesy, than the typical answer.

Having a humanitarian-driven heart means that I want to use my life to serve others. As such, I originally intended to travel to Ghana in order to complete a community development service project with my school in the impoverished area of Nabdam. When deciding to embark on this endeavour through my school, I decided that I wanted to maximize the positive impact that I could make whilst there, and therefore I decided to research volunteer programs that I could join after my school trip finished.

I wanted to check off two major things on my bucket list: participate in some type of volunteer mission abroad, and go on a solo adventure to a foreign country. I had just completed my first year of graduate school, so the timing was perfect. Furthermore, I was curious about healthcare services in a less developed country, and seeking the challenge of traveling alone to test my limits.
