The National Security Language Initiative for Youth (NSLI-Y) program, initiated by the U.S. Department of State in 2006, aims to foster critical language learning among American youth. Administered in collaboration with the American Councils for International Education, NSLI-Y offers merit-based scholarships to high school students for immersive summer and academic year programs in locations where eight designated languages are spoken. Participants engage deeply in the host community's cultural life, gaining formal and informal language practice and cultivating a lasting interest in foreign languages and cultures.

The Persian summer program focuses on the Tajiki dialect of Persian, which utilizes the Cyrillic script. Participants will develop their reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills through in-class language instruction, cultural activities, volunteer work, and stays with host families. Living with local families and interacting with peers provides invaluable opportunities to practice language skills and immerse oneself in traditional Tajiki culture.
