Niños de Guatemala (NDG) is Dutch-Guatemalan nonprofit organization started in 2006 by Marten Dresen, together with siblings Sander Wirken (Marten’s friend) and Annemiek Wirken. NDG was established in the Netherlands where our founders began fundraising activities. Annemiek moved to Guatemala in 2007 and started the Guatemalan branch with Carmen Paniagua, an Antigua local. We opened Nuestro Futuro - our first elementary school - in 2009, in partnership with the local community.
Currently, NDG has two primary schools and a secondary school, making education easily accessible for underprivileged children. So far, we have catered to more than 500 local kids who do not have the financial capacity to attend school. Together with volunteers from around the globe, we ensure these children’s emotional, physical, and academic well-being. Our educational activities are self-sustained through various business initiatives, including tourist activities and a Spanish school.
