Nature Seychelles is a leading, award winning, non-profit association based in Seychelles. The organization began when it took over the outstanding programme managed by Birdlife International, which operated in Seychelles from 1968. Since then, Nature Seychelles has successfully implemented numerous projects and worked with many regional and international partners and donors, including The World Bank, The Global Environment Facility (GEF) IUCN, the RSPB, WWF, WIOMSA, and many others. Nature Seychelles' projects involve a large suite of activities, including conservation of threatened species, conservation and restoration of natural habitats, education and awareness programmes, and capacity development.
Nature Seychelles is based on Cousin Island, which lies 2 kilometers off the coast of Praslin, which is the second largest island in Seychelles. The entire island has served ass a nature reserve since 1968, and the Seychelles Government declared the surrounding reef a "special reserve" in 1975. Cousin Island is managed independently by Nature Seychelles.
