The National Marine Mammal Foundation offers a dynamic internship program designed for students interested in marine mammal science, veterinary medicine, and conservation. This program provides hands-on experience in the care, training, and study of marine mammals, primarily focusing on dolphins and sea lions within a unique open-water environment in San Diego Bay.

This program is suited for undergraduate students majoring in Marine Science, Biology, Zoology, Psychology, Veterinary fields, and other related disciplines. Candidates should be enthusiastic, committed, and interested in marine mammal care and conservation. The internship requires a 40-hour per week commitment over a 16-week period.

Tasks include diet preparation, sanitation, and equipment maintenance; assisting with husbandry and open-ocean training sessions under the guidance of experienced marine mammal trainers. Additionally, interns will support animal care staff during physical examinations and participate in various marine mammal research projects.
