Program Summary

Since the first establishment of a college in Maynooth in 1795, Ancient Classics had already been taught. Over the years, it continues to be a major subject in the study of Arts and Humanities. At Maynooth University, our department focuses on the study of ancient Roman and Greek civilizations in all their aspects: archaeology, art, philosophy, history, literature, and language.

Undergraduate and postgraduate students approach these topics by choosing any of these three courses: Greek and Roman Civilization, Ancient Greek, or Ancient Latin. We also provide graduate students the option to sign up for our research program. Our modules include Introduction to Ancient Greek, Introduction to Latin, Roman Slavery in Theory and Practice, The Ancient Novel, and Women in Greece and Rome, amongst many others.
