Regular duties are the daily cleaning of all the enclosures and exterior areas where the animals live and the preparation/distribution of the food to all the species of animals sheltered at the centre.
In particular seasons, volunteers regularly go on walks to collect wild fruits and leaves for the animals to include in their diets. Activities vary each week a lot depending on the needs of the animals and the centre at the time. All volunteers have to participate in the wide variety of projects planned for the centre, from building bigger and better enclosures for the animals (a continuous all year round task), improving access paths to enclosures, continuous animal observation, maintenance work, or in the different community projects that the centre provides to the local indigenous families (helping with crops, fish ponds, facilities, & schools). Every day is an adventure! Sometimes there is also the opportunity to assist the local vet taking part in small veterinarian procedures.
Volunteers start working at 8.00 am. The first morning duties are the cleaning of all the areas and enclosures where the animals live, and the preparing and distributing of the foods for the diurnal animals. After these essential everyday duties, volunteers work on the various activities planned for the centre until 1.00 pm. Lunch break goes on until 2.30 pm, when volunteers resume their activities. At 5.00 pm the feeding duties are initiated for the nocturnal animals living at the centre, when different groups of volunteers take turns to provide for these animals. We usually stop work around 5.30 pm. On weekends volunteers are required to work on Saturday morning until approximately 11.00 am.
