Spider monkey monitoring
June 14, 2018by: Julia Askeland - AustraliaI volunteered at Kawsay Center for about 6 weeks and was part of the spider monkey monitoring program. The work was extremely valuable to my studies and has given me excellent experience in field work. I learnt how to navigate the unruly Amazon rainforest, collect data and became more familiar with GPS functions. Raul is a very patient and thorough teacher and is clearly very dedicated to his vital work. His teaching methods encourage you to become an independent worker and he is always happy to share his knowledge of the forest with you. The housing is super comfortable and it is an amazing experience to wake up and fall asleep to the beautiful sounds of the Amazon each day and night. I highly recommend this experience to everyone, even if you are not studying sometime relevant, it is still a once in a life time opportunity to live and learn in Amazon, make life long friends and do something extremely valuable for the natural world.
