Health&Help is seeking adventurous doctors, assistant physicians, or nurses to dedicate their time and skills to the people of the Chinandega region in Nicaragua. We also welcome other medical and healthcare specialists.

In this role, you will be expected to collaborate with our team and other volunteers while dealing with these responsibilities:
- Examining patients on-site and in field 
- Prescribing drugs and purchasing medical supplies 
- Offering medical decisions and advice on various cases
- Keeping the papers in order

We are a non-governmental organization providing support, healthcare and medical assistance, and related programs to rural areas in Nicaragua. Currently, we are building a medical facility that caters to a population of around 5,000 people in the coastal area of Chinandega.

While your expertise in medicine and health care is crucial, excellent physical condition is highly required.

Over the last five years we have built two charity clinics in Central America (Guatemala and Nicaragua) and run them solely on a volunteer basis. We host international volunteer programs for doctors, nurses, medical students and other volunteers of non-medical profile. We offer a professionally and personally enriching program for pre-med students and practitioners for 3 to eighteen months.

Challenging and rewarding experience

This year I spent 2 months at the Health&Help clinic in Guatemala. It was an intense period of dedication to the Chuinajtajuyup community and to all the others who came to us for medical help. A time when i was given the opportunity and the autonomy to grow and learn a lot, the reason i’m thankful to Health&Help - for trusting me and for providing me the necessary tools to be able to serve in the best way.
The clinic is located in a somewhat remote mountainous area of Guatemala, in the village of Chuinajtajuyup. There, the volunteers live and work side by side with the community, in between two schools, which bring so much life to the clinic, with the smiles of children peeking through our windows during lunchtime. On weekends, we organized afternoons with the kids from the community – things like drawing and painting, cinema with popcorn, team games and gardening, which also brought us closer to the reality in which they lived. During this time in Guatemala, I felt like a family with our neighbors, safe and motivated to work for those people who needed us so much. 
Our work involved a lot of health education, promoting good habits considering the reality in which we were inserted. The clinic work is a big help, mainly, for chronic patients (most of whom are diabetic), as it allows their very frequent follow-up (generally every month) and maintenance of the treatment that, otherwise, due to the scarcity of resources and the lack of aid from the state, would often not be possible.
The clinic offered us accommodation and meals, and there was one day a week reserved to go to the market and buy the food for the whole week. This part of community life, with the other volunteers, was also a very cool and challenging part of this experience – cooking for everyone, learning new recipes and trying to be creative with what we had; cleaning and organizing the house and clinic; watching movies together during rest time.
Also, and very importantly, this volunteering allowed me to learn and practice a new language (Spanish), which made me so happy and fulfilled, because I think otherwise I wouldn’t have learnt it this early and wouldn’t even have had the opportunity to go and meet these lovely people and the beautiful country of Guatemala. I must also say H&H process of recruitment is very organized, demanding and, therefore, very trustworthy and rewarding. 
For these reasons, without a doubt, i am very grateful for this time with Health&Help, and I can only recommend their work. I hope people continue supporting it and helping it grow to serve more and more people in need!

A changing life experience!

Volunteering as a doctor in Guatemala taught me so much about patience, love and compassion. Attending patients from another culture, as the Mayan, is challenging and makes you use all your medical knowledge and also makes you open to new ways of seeing health and sickness. Living all the time with volunteers from all over the world is a huge opportunity to grow as a human and have new friends and adventures!
