The Fundacion Proyecto Ecologico Chiriboga or Chiriboga Ecological Project Foundation is a nonprofit NGO without political, racial, or religious conflicts. We obtained legal constitution from the Ministry of Environment of Ecuador - South America in 1999. We aim for “Protection and Conservation of the Environment”, supporting community initiatives within local economic development and environmental scope. Together with international volunteers and the entire community, we help local people understand the huge relevance of proper agricultural methods and reforestation in the area.
The Chiriboga Foundation claims responsibility over the protection and conservation of the last forests in the western Andean mountains in Pichincha, a province in north-central Ecuador that is rich in volcanoes. We use education as a platform, raising the awareness of locals and improving the academic level of students in primary schools. Volunteers assist us through teaching environmental practices as well as English and Computer. They also engage in intercultural exchange, allowing everyone - from students to volunteers - to learn from each other.
