Established in 1953 to serve farmers and their families in the development of social, education, and economic alternatives to better their lives with solidarity and respect for the environment, Fundación Brethren y Unida is a nonprofit organisation that offers volunteering opportunities on an organic farm in the Ecuadorian Andes, where participants can learn about agroecology, environmental education, permaculture, and sustainability. For the last 10 years, the foundation has been working with the youth on environmental programs, reforestation efforts, cultural exchange, and volunteer placements in surrounding communities.
Our main role is as a facilitator of reforestation and sustainable agricultural projects within various areas of Ecuador. We also the organic farm Hacienda Picalquí, cultivating fruit, vegetables, and livestock, while training and employing methods of sustainable agriculture.
We aim to foster the creative abilities of volunteers and the people of rural Ecuador, encouraging them to share knowledge, and helping locals to promote their rights in order to create organisational and technical projects so that we may improve their quality of life and lay the foundations for collective responsibility, equality, solidarity, and respect for nature.
