Extremely fulfilling

My trip to Uganda in 2014, with FTPF was the best “vacation” in my life. The volunteer work never felt like work. It was more of a social experience, like barn raisings. We worked side by side with locals; sharing, joking, eating and learning from each other. Everyone, from our hosts to random vendors on the street, was warm and friendly. The children were an obsolute delight! I loved being a part if this project.
The staff from FTPF is fun too. We shopped, explored, ate and drank during our off hours. People I met for the first time now seem like old friends!!

First but definitely not the last time visiting Uganda

WOW, what an experience!

This trip was my second international trip with The Fruit Tree Planting Foundation, and it was such a whirlwind of beauty, hard work, and new friendships. The two biggest takeaways were 1) the impact we made by planting and distributing thousands and thousands of trees to help the environment, give people a source of food and livelihood, and green the countryside and 2) the amount of intimate time you spend with the people here by planting trees alongside them in their yards, sharing meals with them in their homes, and discussing important issues on growing food and protecting both the local and global environment. It is unlike any other volunteer experience, because the FTPF team knows the community so well, and knows the field of tree-planting so well, and they welcome you into that experience so that it feels like you belong there.

Oh, and don't forget the awesome safari and river cruise at the end of the trip! We saw elephants, lions, jackals, hippos, crocodiles, chimpanzees.....you can also opt additional activities like chimpanzee tracking excursion, visit a rhino sanctuary, or a rafting trip down the Nile River. I chose to do the chimpanzee tracking and the rafting trip, both of which I highly recommend!

Unforgettable & life-changing travel and volunteer experience

The Fruit Tree Planting Foundation (FTPF) volunteer program to Uganda was my first volunteer trip abroad, and it was one of the most amazing and memorable experiences of my life. Being able to interact with, teach, as well as learn from children of all ages while planting fruit trees at multiple schools (which I had never done before, but the FTPF has very friendly expert staff who show you everything you need to know), and experiencing the warmth, friendliness, and curiosity of locals in the communities we visited throughout the Jinja area, made this a very unique, enlightening, and rewarding experience which combined travel with giving back to the earth and its communities. The FTPF and its partner organizations in Uganda have a love and dedication to what they do which I found inspirational; I will undoubtedly join them again in the future on another trip. As a cherry on top, the eco-adventure activities (safari, adventure activity options, etc.) were truly unforgettable; Uganda is a unique and worthwhile visit in East Africa, and seeing it through the eyes of a FTPF volunteer is the perfect way to experience it!

Uganda Holistic Health Crusade

I have volunteered with FTPF in various locations throughout the US and abroad during the past half decade, however the 2016 Uganda trip was my first time joining them in Africa for their ongoing project. I feel the itinerary was very well outlined and felt safe and supported in my decision to volunteer so far away from home based on the professionalism, communication, and adaptability I have experienced with the organizers as well as the receptiveness and hospitality of the communities they choose to partner with. I would highly recommend the Uganda trip and any trip FTPF organizes for that matter to new volunteers because although each one is hard work, they are each uniquely a once in a lifetime, life changing and planet enhancing experience!
