Volunteer to Empower Refugees in Kenya

After contacting Lyama, I began my journey to KAKUMA. Lyama assisted me with all the necessary procedures and application documents required to enter the refugee camp, which are essential for entry. Upon landing, I quickly recognized Lyama, and I was impressed by the warmth of him and his colleagues. He stayed by my side the entire time, whether during work or on weekend outings, which eased my concerns about the dangers of the refugee camp. Through his introductions and the volunteer activities arranged, I gained an understanding of the structure and culture of the refugee camp. Additionally, through the outreach of the Faulu organization, I experienced various aspects of life in the camp and learned how Faulu helps refugees achieve a better life.

I did my volunteering with Faulu in Kakuma in 2019. I didn´t know them or even where the place was in the map. Lyama and his crew help me a lot and always came with a smile and warmth to make me feel comfortable and secure. Kakuma is a tough place, but I didn´t feel bad at all; in fact, I can say that being with Faulu people was a big highlight in that journey, having meetings, different activities and relaxing moments with volunteers and workers.
