FairMail is a Peru-based social enterprise focused on creating fair trade products, such as greeting cards and photo books. The organization was established by Dutch entrepreneur and sociologist, Janneke Smeulders, in 2006. She was joined by her partner, Peter den Hond, in 2007. In 2012, they managed the International FairMail online while traveling as digital nomads to visit FairMail’s production and sales locations in numerous countries, including India and Morocco.
At FairMail, we envision a world where all young people have equal opportunities for self-development and education. Hence, we train Peruvian, Indian, and Moroccan teens in photography, as well as provide them guidance and a medical fund to help propel their plans. They take pictures of different subjects and then, turn these into products they can sell through FairMail. They earn 50 percent of the profits and use the funds to finance their education and housing. Our work is supported by international volunteers who take on a position that matches their skill and background. They generally work in areas like photography training, graphic design, and English teaching.
