Service learning, Haitian Creole classes, and social work

I did the three week Haitian Creole language program for social work students. This was a great program! We spent the first week learning a lot of Creole and getting to know Haiti. We had lots of free time to go to the pool and hang out with the Haitian university students who also live on campus. We had a one hour discussion each evening with the Haitian students to talk about cultural differences, our lives, and just to get to know each other. There was all day field trip each Thursday and lots of little field trips through the three week course. The service learning projects were during the second and third week. I really felt like I was doing something useful. The housing was okay (dorm rooms with fans and private bathrooms). The staff were really nice and helpful. I'm so glad I went and I'm looking forward to going back.
