Amazon Promise is a nonprofit organization established in Massachusetts in 1993 to offer volunteer-based medical relief. We provide much-needed education and health care access, including dental and medical, to marginalized communities in Peru’s Amazon Basin. Our operations are based in Iquitos, the gateway to tribal villages and jungle lodges in the northern Amazon. We organize educational programs as well as offer dental and medical services to residents in Iquitos and Belen. We also conduct routine local training and medical outreach in 32 remote jungle villages, together with local and international volunteers.
Since our inception, our health education and medical initiatives have benefited more than 55,000 patients. Our projects and programs have been joined by more than 600 non-medical and medical professionals. Amazon Promize works mostly in communities asking for assistance and in areas where other organizations or groups don’t visit. Our teams often take extreme measures to help people in inaccessible places. We collaborate closely with the Ministry of Health to keep track of health trends and to manage complicated cases.
