Share your passion for people and love of teaching in Cape Town, as you work with underprivileged inner-city communities, teaching and caring for disadvantaged children, and creating fun learning activities. Although voted one of the world’s top tourist destinations, Cape Town has many informal settlements ridden with poverty, substance abuse, unemployment, and HIV/AIDS - issues which largely stem from the aftereffects of Apartheid. Khayelitsha township is the largest of these settlements where many of our volunteer projects are based. African Impact partners with preschools and organizations that facilitate after-school care programs to vulnerable children. Many of these are understaffed and lacking in essential resources as they struggle to meet the needs of children between the ages o...

Would 100% go through African Impact Again
by: Nina KingProgram: Community School Volunteering in Cape TownFrom the moment I landed at the airport to the day I left, I felt extremely welcomed, comfortable and safe with African Impact. The manager at the Lennox guest house (Anro) made an exceptional effort to get to know myself and the other people I was travelling with despite not being on project with us. The kitchen staff were extremely friendly, made delicious food and went the extra step by doing special things such as playing Italian music for pasta nights. The cleaners, security guards and othe...
A great experience for you and the kids
by: Myla van HalterenProgram: Community School Volunteering in Cape TownI had a great time volunteering with African impact. There was enough structure to the program, but also enough freedom to express your own ideas. There was a lot of variation, there were different age groups that we were working with. And there were school and after school programs. I chose this program, because it was known for there ethical responsible volunteering. I can say that from what I’ve seen that is true. African impact puts the child first, as it supposed to be. My volunteer coordin...
Best way to experience Cape Town
by: Hannah KingProgram: Community School Volunteering in Cape TownI found that this was a really incredible way to experience the communities of Cape Town up close and personal. I’m so glad I decided to do this instead of touring. I met some really great people at the volunteer program who I believe I will stay in touch with, and I saw a side of Cape Town I wouldn’t have seen other wise. This was well worth it and my only regret was not booking my trip for longer.
