<h3>What inspired you to go abroad?</h3>
<p>I was inspired to travel abroad because of my commitment to learning more about international cultures and interacting with individuals across Europe. I also wanted to learn about law and politics from a unique perspective that I could not access in the United States. In addition to these points, I was inspired by other students at my home university to travel and learn in different countries while I completed my undergraduate studies.&nbsp;</p>

<h3>Why did you choose <a href=https://www.goabroad.com/providers/ces-maastricht rel="" target="_self" class="link">CES Maastricht</a>?</h3>
<p>I chose to study at the Center for European Studies at the University of Maastricht because of its regional location and its unique course of study in law and politics. I engaged with several American and European students through the program, and I took classes that offered a unique look at the laws of the European Union. I was also attracted to Maastricht because it provided a great pathway to travel through the rest of Europe.</p>
<h3>What was your favorite part about Maastricht?</h3>
<p>Maastricht was a beautiful city with a strong, unique culture that provided a truly welcoming home for the four months I spent abroad. With several hidden cafés and restaurants alongside historical landmarks, there was no shortage of locations to explore in the city. The residents and faculty also provided a phenomenal group to learn under and engage with during my time as a member of the Center for European Studies.&nbsp;</p>
<h3>What made your experience abroad extraordinary?</h3>
<p>When comparing my abroad experience to others or looking for ways that made it stand out, my freedom and ability to travel across nearly twenty countries in Europe was by far one of the most extraordinary components of my study abroad experience.&nbsp;</p>
<p>While the Center for European Studies provided strong educational programming, the guided trips to both Berlin and Paris provided a powerful and engaging look into two unique cultures that few other programs offer.  While the course programming was involved, there were plenty of opportunities to travel by myself without having an undue burden placed on my studies.</p>
<h3>How did local staff support you throughout your program?</h3>
<p>The staff at the Center of European Studies provided an approachable and insightful group that ensured our comfort while living in the Netherlands, as well as our ability to comprehend the courses taught by their instructors. In several instances, we were provided with sit-down interviews and conversations with staff to assist us with our courses and in exploring the wider area.</p>
<h3>What's one thing you wish you would have done differently during your time abroad?</h3>
<p>While I was abroad, I prioritized travel experiences rather than spending time in my host city, Maastricht. While I would not trade these travels for the world, I wish I had spent more time becoming ingrained in my host culture and meeting more people who were residing in the city. If I were to do my study abroad experience again, I would spend more time with other students in the city.</p>

<h3>Describe what a typical day in your life abroad looked like.</h3>
<p>A typical day would involve a morning cup of coffee paired with a short stroll around the city with either a friend or by myself. I then find a quiet place in the city to study before attending my lectures and tutorials for the day. In the evenings, I would complete my studies and spend time with friends around the city or enjoy time together in our dormitories.&nbsp;</p>
<h3>What did you enjoy doing during your free time abroad?</h3>
<p>When I had free time, especially during the weekends, I greatly enjoyed traveling around Europe to different countries and cities that provided incredible opportunities I never would have had if not for my study abroad experience.&nbsp;</p>
<p>In traveling, I not only made deeper connections with those I traveled with, but I also developed a greater appreciation for the world around me.</p>
<h3>What type of accommodation did you have? What did you like best about it?</h3>
<p>While abroad, I lived in a single-person dormitory that shared bathrooms and a kitchen with several other people living in my hallway. As a resident, I completed grocery shopping and cooking for myself, which actually provided a fantastic way to socialize with the other students in my hallway, as well as develop a level of independence that would have been difficult to manifest in my home university.</p>
<h3>What is one thing every future participant should know about CES Maastricht before their program begins?</h3>
<p>Everyone who studies with the Center for European Studies should be aware of the intelligent and supportive staff available to them through the <a href=https://www.goabroad.com/providers/ces-maastricht/programs/politics-law-international-relations-in-europe-136220 rel="" target="_self" class="link">program</a>. I was continuously impressed with the degree of knowledge and awareness the staff members were able to offer us, and they always supported the academic decisions we made in constructive ways.</p>
<h3>Would you recommend your program to others? Why?</h3>
<p>I would strongly recommend that other students planning to study abroad choose the University of Maastricht and the Center for European Studies because of the knowledgeable staff, the unique programming, and the resources Maastricht offers. As I mentioned, the staff provided exceptional counseling for all students and provided unique trips to areas around Europe. Also, the rest of the university and city offer countless formative opportunities that made the four months I spent abroad some of the greatest of my life.</p>

<h3>What is your biggest takeaway from traveling abroad?</h3>
<p>The largest takeaway from my time abroad is the skills I gained through personal travel between several countries. Few experiences challenged my logistical and strategic planning skills like planning countless trips around Europe did, and between finding destinations, booking accommodations and travel plans, and scheduling events around my classes, there was no shortage of opportunities to grow.</p>
<h3>Now that you're home, how has your time abroad impacted your life?</h3>
<p>My time abroad has made me a more understanding and compassionate person, as I have grown more accepting of those with unique worldviews and behaviors unique to their culture. I do not believe I would have adopted these perspectives if not for my time abroad, and I am already beginning to plan my next visit abroad to gain an even greater understanding of international viewpoints.</p>
<h3>What does meaningful travel mean to you?</h3>
<p>Meaningful travel involves experiencing the unique worldviews available to travelers while accompanied by others. My best experiences involved sharing this growth with others who challenged my opinions and provided an outlet for conversations about the experiences we had. This offered a constructive and engaging method of reviewing our experiences and providing tremendous opportunities to remember them long into the future.&nbsp;</p>

<h3>What inspired you to go abroad?</h3>
<p>I was inspired to go about because it truly is a once in a lifetime experience and we are only this young once, so why not take advantage of that. It also gave me the opportunity to travel around and see so many other countries with different cultures, languages, and food!&nbsp;</p>
<p>In addition, as a business major, I also wanted to see the diverse business landscape of not only Barcelona, but also those of the places I visited.</p>

<p>I felt that the <a href=https://www.goabroad.com/providers/universitat-autnoma-de-barcelona/programs/study-subjects-in-english-or-spanish-in-barcelona-186428 rel="" target="_self" class="link">program</a> I selected, the Barcelona Business and Culture Program, was a perfect fit for my goals and interests. I wanted to learn more about business operations in an international context while also gaining a deeper understanding of the city’s culture.&nbsp;</p>
<p>Overall, I truly believe I could not have chosen a better program for myself.</p>
<h3>What was your favorite part about Barcelona?</h3>
<p>I absolutely loved that there was always something new to experience, whether it was a different activity to enjoy or a new type of food to try.&nbsp;</p>
<p>Coming from a very rural town, it truly felt like the opportunities were endless. The diversity of people, cuisines, and cultures throughout Barcelona was simply incredible and made every day exciting.</p>
<h3>What made your experience abroad extraordinary?</h3>
<p>I believe my experience abroad was truly extraordinary, especially because of the people I met along the way.&nbsp;</p>
<p>I arrived completely alone, unsure of what to expect, and left with many meaningful friendships. They made the beautiful views, delicious meals, and fun nights even more memorable and special.</p>
<h3>How did local staff support you throughout your program?</h3>
<p>I felt like there was always someone I could reach out to whenever I needed support or guidance, which made me feel very comfortable throughout the experience.&nbsp;</p>
<p>I also loved being able to talk to my professors about my personal experiences and hear their own stories, which made the classes much more engaging and meaningful.</p>
<h3>What's one thing you wish you would have done differently during your time abroad?</h3>

<p>If I could redo my time abroad, I would approach it with a more structured plan from the very beginning. I wish I had organized and scheduled some trips in advance, as it would have helped me feel more prepared and less overwhelmed.&nbsp;</p>
<p>Having a clearer plan would have reduced stress and allowed me to fully enjoy each experience while still leaving room for spontaneous moments and unexpected opportunities.</p>
<h3>Describe what a typical day in your life abroad looked like.</h3>
<p>A typical weekday usually consisted of me waking up around 7am. Once I was ready for the day I’d eat breakfast and head to class before 8.&nbsp;</p>
<p>Some days I would pack a lunch, go home for lunch or if I felt like treating myself I’d eat out. Between classes I would usually grab a snack at a super mercat, hang out with friends, journal or just walk around.&nbsp;</p>
<p>After school my friends/roommates would all wait until in the living room until everyone was home and we’d make dinner, drink sangria watch Netflix (mostly Bridgerton), and finish the night with a sweet treat.</p>
<h3>What did you enjoy doing during your free time abroad?</h3>
<p>On the weekends I traveled of course, but in between moments I journaled. It was something new that I thought would be fun to be able to look back on. I would write about what saw, heard, and even smelled, not only on my trips but also during my daily life in Barcelona.&nbsp;</p>
<p>After trips or busy weeks in Barcelona I would take all of the little things I collected (receipts, wrappers, transportation cards, tickets, etc.) and put them into my junk journal.</p>
<h3>What type of accommodation did you have? What did you like best about it?</h3>
<p>I lived in a residencia and I absolutely loved it. I specifically lived in Aparto Cristobal de Moura. I loved that although we had a common space in the apartment we also had our own rooms and bathrooms that was completely separate from the living space.&nbsp;</p>
<p>I also enjoyed that they planned events for us to participate in and of course the amenities like the pool and gym. But, the rooftop was my absolute favorite part of my accommodation, the view was beautiful! You could see everything from the Tibidabo, to La Sagrada Família, and Torre Glòries.&nbsp;</p>
<p>I loved going up during sunset to journal, I wish I would have discovered it sooner!</p>

<h3>What is one thing every future participant should know about your program before their program begins?</h3>
<p>Take advantage of every opportunity for a new experience.&nbsp;</p>
<p>Whether is saying yes to trip with people you just met or participating in an event your university hosts. Just go. Or even if it’s talking to whole elementary class that’s on the metro.&nbsp;</p>
<p>You’ll meet so many amazing people, you just have to open to it.</p>
<h3>Would you recommend Study Abroad at UAB: Pre-Established Courses to others? Why?</h3>
<p>I would definitely recommend my program to others without hesitation.&nbsp;</p>
<p>The classes offered were engaging and interesting, and the professors I met were absolutely amazing and supportive. Everyone was so friendly and genuinely interested in our experiences, always making sure we had the best time possible.&nbsp;</p>
<p>I truly could not imagine selecting another program.</p>
<h3>What do you feel the biggest benefit of traveling abroad is?</h3>
<p>I think the biggest benefit of traveling abroad was the independence you gain from the experience.&nbsp;</p>
<p>For me personally, coming alone pushed me out of my comfort zone and encouraged me to do things on my own or make plans with new people. I believe this helped me grow, become more confident, and develop important life skills.</p>
<h3>Now that you're home, how has your time abroad impacted your life?</h3>

<p>I think it still feels so unreal, almost like it didn’t actually happen at all.&nbsp;</p>
<p>It’s crazy to think about how much life I truly lived there while everything back home seemed to stay the same. It’s honestly difficult to explain the mix of emotions and the mindset shift I experienced during that time.</p>
<h3>What does meaningful travel mean to you?</h3>
<p>Meaningful travel to me is more than just where you going. It’s about the people you are with and the people you will meet. It’s about eating the food you’ve been wanting to try and eating the food you’re nervous to try. It’s about seeing the famous sights but also appreciating the beauty around them.&nbsp;</p>
<p>Meaningful travel is living in the moment; appreciating every word, every bite, and every place. Meaningful travel is being able to look back at a city or country and viewing it as more than being just a place but viewing it as all of the memories it’s given you.</p>

<h4>What inspired you to work for <a href=https://www.goabroad.com/providers/transcaucasian-trail-1 rel="" target="_self" class="link"><ins>Transcaucasian Trail</ins></a>?</h4>
<p>My inspiration to work with the Transcaucasian Trail began when I first participated in its educational programs. At that time, I had the opportunity to experience the organization not only as a participant but also as someone who could closely observe the values and mission that guide its work.</p>
<p>Through these programs, I saw how the Transcaucasian Trail creates meaningful learning environments where young people can develop new skills, exchange ideas, and engage with important social, cultural, and environmental topics.</p>
<p>This experience had a strong impact on me and motivated me to become more actively involved in the organization’s work. As a cultural anthropologist and archaeologist, I have always been interested in understanding people, cultures, and the ways communities interact with their environment and heritage. Because of this background, I naturally felt connected to the mission of the Transcaucasian Trail.</p>
<p>The organization works to empower young people through non-formal education, outdoor learning, cultural exchange, and community engagement. These approaches create opportunities for participants not only to gain new knowledge but also to develop critical thinking, leadership skills, and a sense of responsibility toward their communities.</p>
<p>One of the most inspiring aspects of the Transcaucasian Trail is its focus on experiential learning. The organization organizes camps, workshops, hiking expeditions, and various educational initiatives that take place in natural environments and rural communities.</p>
<p>These activities allow participants to learn through direct experience, collaboration, and interaction with local cultures and landscapes. In my view, this method of learning is extremely powerful because it connects theoretical knowledge with real-life experiences and encourages participants to reflect on their role in society.</p>

<p>I also believe that the work of the Transcaucasian Trail is particularly important for the Caucasus region. The Caucasus is a region with a rich cultural heritage, diverse traditions, and complex historical and social dynamics.</p>
<p>At the same time, many communities in the region face challenges related to social development, youth engagement, and opportunities for international cooperation. Initiatives like the Transcaucasian Trail play a crucial role in creating spaces where people from different backgrounds can meet, communicate, and collaborate.</p>
<p>The project itself aims to create a long-distance hiking trail that connects Armenia, Georgia, and Azerbaijan, promoting sustainable tourism, environmental awareness, and regional cooperation. Beyond the physical trail, the initiative also encourages cultural exchange and community development. By bringing together local communities, volunteers, hikers, and international participants, the Transcaucasian Trail helps strengthen connections across the region and promotes a shared understanding of the Caucasus as a space of cultural and natural diversity.</p>
<p>Another important aspect of the Transcaucasian Trail is its ability to connect local experiences with international perspectives. Through volunteer programs, trail-building projects, camps, and partnerships with international organizations, the initiative attracts people from many countries who are interested in nature, sustainability, and cultural exploration.</p>
<p>These interactions help participants broaden their horizons, learn from each other, and develop a deeper understanding of global environmental and social issues. My personal journey with the organization developed naturally over time.</p>
<p>During my participation in the programs, I demonstrated strong organizational skills, responsibility, and enthusiasm for teamwork. Based on these qualities, I was invited to join the office team. This opportunity allowed me to transition from being a participant to actively contributing to the organization’s projects and initiatives.</p>
<h4>What advice would you tell your pre-travel self?</h4>

<p>If I could give advice to my pre-travel self, I would tell myself to fully embrace uncertainty and be open to every experience along the way. Before traveling, it is easy to focus on plans, expectations, and what you think the journey will look like. However, some of the most meaningful moments often happen unexpectedly. Being open to new environments, unfamiliar cultures, and different perspectives allows travel to become not only a physical journey but also a personal and intellectual one.</p>
<p>I would also tell myself to value the people I would meet along the journey. One of the most powerful aspects of travel is the opportunity to connect with individuals from different cultures and backgrounds. These connections can lead to long-lasting friendships, professional collaborations, and a broader understanding of the world.</p>
<p>Especially within initiatives connected to the Caucasus region, meeting people who share a passion for nature, culture, and community can be incredibly inspiring.</p>
<h4>What is your favorite part of your job?</h4>
<p>My favorite part of my job is meeting our international volunteers and sharing my country with them. I really enjoy telling them about our culture, history, and traditions, and introducing them to Armenia’s rich heritage. It is very meaningful for me to see how curious and interested people from different parts of the world are when they learn about the region and its cultural landscapes.</p>
<p>Another part I truly enjoy is being in the camps. Camps create a special environment where people can connect with nature, work together, and build friendships. As a Camp Manager, it is important for me to make sure that everyone feels comfortable, supported, and included. I like creating a positive and welcoming atmosphere where volunteers can learn, explore, and enjoy their time.</p>
<p>It is also very rewarding to see that volunteers have a good experience and feel that their work has a real impact. Whether they are helping with trail building, participating in cultural activities, or engaging with local communities, I want them to leave with a meaningful connection to the region and to the Transcaucasian Trail initiative.</p>
<h4>How do you use your education and international background in your current role?</h4>
<p>I use my education in cultural anthropology and archaeology in my current role by helping international volunteers better understand the cultural and historical context of the region. In 2023, I participated as a volunteer in one of our trail-building programs, which gave me firsthand experience of the challenges and rewards of the work.</p>
<p>This experience helped me understand the needs and expectations of volunteers, and it taught me how to guide them effectively while ensuring they have a meaningful and enjoyable experience.</p>
<h4>Why should someone choose Transcaucasian Trail over competitors?</h4>
<p>Someone should choose the Transcaucasian Trail over other organizations because of its unique combination of cultural, environmental, and community-focused work. Unlike many volunteer programs, our organization allows participants to actively engage with the cultural heritage and natural landscapes of the Caucasus while contributing to a tangible, long-term project, the development and maintenance of the Transcaucasian Trail itself.</p>
<p>Volunteers don’t just visit a place; they leave a lasting impact by improving trails, connecting communities, and promoting sustainable tourism. The programs are carefully designed to balance trail work, cultural engagement, outdoor adventure, and team-building, ensuring that volunteers leave with valuable skills, memorable experiences, and a deep sense of accomplishment.</p>

<h4>What is Transcaucasian Trail’s mission and how do you continue to work toward it?</h4>
<p>The mission of the Transcaucasian Trail is to create and maintain a long-distance hiking trail that connects communities, landscapes, and cultures across the Caucasus region, promoting sustainable tourism, environmental stewardship, and cultural exchange.</p>
<p>The organization works to strengthen regional connections while empowering local communities and international volunteers to engage with the region’s natural and cultural heritage in a meaningful way. The organization’s mission is supported by international collaboration.</p>
<p>Volunteers from around the world bring diverse perspectives and skills, enriching the program and helping build a global network of people committed to the trail and the region.</p>
<p>By combining practical work, cultural education, and community cooperation, we continue to make progress toward a Transcaucasian Trail that is not only a physical path but also a bridge between people, cultures, and nature.</p>
<h4>What do you hope participants take away from your programs?</h4>
<p>I hope that participants take away a deep appreciation for the Caucasus region. I want them to leave with a strong sense of accomplishment, knowing that their contributions helped create and maintain a trail that will benefit both local communities and future hikers.</p>
<p>Equally important, I hope participants gain personal growth and new perspectives. By working and living alongside people from different countries and backgrounds, they learn to collaborate, communicate across cultures, and develop confidence in unfamiliar situations. I want them to experience firsthand the value of community, environmental stewardship, and cultural exchange.</p>
<p>My goal is for volunteers to return home not just with skills and memories, but with inspiration and motivation to continue engaging with nature, culture, and community, wherever they are in the world.</p>
<h4>Why is it important for people to travel abroad and experience new cultures?</h4>
<p>I believe it is important for people to travel abroad and experience new cultures because it opens the mind and broadens one’s perspective. When you immerse yourself in a different culture, you learn to understand ways of life, traditions, and values that may be very different from your own. This helps develop empathy, tolerance, and a deeper appreciation for diversity.</p>
<p>Traveling also encourages personal growth. Being in a new environment challenges you to adapt, problem-solve, and communicate with people from different backgrounds, which builds confidence and resilience. It allows you to step outside your comfort zone, try new experiences, and see the world in a more connected and holistic way.</p>
<h4>How do you help support participants?</h4>
<p>I support participants in multiple ways to ensure they have a meaningful, safe, and enjoyable experience. Before and during their time on the program, I provide guidance and orientation, explaining the goals of the trail-building projects, cultural sites, and community engagement activities. I also help them understand the local context, including Armenia’s history, traditions, and natural landscapes, so they can connect more deeply with the region.</p>
<p>On the ground, I assist with logistics, camp organization, and problem-solving, making sure participants feel supported and comfortable in all aspects of the program. I encourage teamwork, facilitate communication between volunteers from different backgrounds, and help everyone stay engaged and motivated during both trail work and cultural activities.</p>
<h4>What does meaningful travel mean to you?</h4>

<p>To me, meaningful travel is about more than visiting new places—it is about connecting with people, cultures, and the environment in a way that creates lasting impact. It means engaging actively with the communities you visit, learning from them, and contributing in a way that is respectful and beneficial.</p>
<p>Travel also involves personal growth. It challenges you to step out of your comfort zone, gain new perspectives, and reflect on your own values and assumptions. It’s about seeing the world through a broader lens and developing empathy for different ways of life.</p>

<p>Working with Giving Hands is deeply meaningful to me because it allows me to give back to the community that shaped who I am. I believe travel should not only create unforgettable experiences for visitors, but also bring positive change to local people.&nbsp;</p>
<p>Through Giving Hands, I have the opportunity to support, uplift, and connect with communities in a real and impactful way. It inspires me every day to be part of something bigger—where kindness, opportunity, and hope are shared.</p>
<h3>Describe a typical day at work.</h3>
<p>I do a relaxed and welcoming town tour in Arusha at Giving Hands Tanzania. Walk through lively local markets, meet friendly people, and experience the everyday rhythm of the city.&nbsp;</p>
<p>It’s a simple, authentic, and heartwarming introduction to Tanzania, making you feel at home from the very first day, and also providing all the necessary information to the volunteers on the first day.</p>

<p>I do this because I love sharing the beauty and richness of Tanzania with others. Traveling has the power to open hearts, create lasting memories, and connect people from different cultures.&nbsp;</p>
<p>By guiding safaris and local experiences, I get to help travelers discover wildlife, nature, and traditions in a meaningful way—while also supporting and giving back to the communities I care about through Giving Hands.</p>
<h3>What is your favorite part of your job?</h3>
<p>My favorite part of the job is seeing the joy and wonder on travelers’ faces when they experience Tanzania for the first time. I love sharing stories about wildlife, nature, and local culture, and knowing that I help create memories that will last a lifetime.&nbsp;</p>
<p>Every day is a new adventure, and being able to connect people with the beauty of my country is truly rewarding.</p>
<h3>How do you use your education and international background in your current role?</h3>
<p>I use my education to design meaningful and well-organized travel experiences. It helps me understand tourism management, customer service, and cultural engagement, so I can guide travelers safely, efficiently, and with a deep appreciation for Tanzania’s wildlife and communities.</p>
<p>My knowledge also allows me to support sustainable tourism and contribute positively through Giving Hands.</p>
<h3>What are some current projects you are working on?</h3>
<p>I organize and guide personalized safari experiences across Tanzania, helping travelers explore nature, wildlife, and local culture in a meaningful and seamless way.&nbsp;</p>

<h3>What advice would you tell your pre-travel self?</h3>

<h3>What do you hope participants take away from your programs?</h3>
<p>I hope participants take away more than just memories—they gain a deeper understanding of Tanzanian culture, wildlife, and communities. I want them to feel connected, inspired, and empowered by their experiences, knowing that their time and efforts have made a positive impact.&nbsp;</p>
<p>Most importantly, I hope they leave with new friendships, a sense of adventure, and a lasting appreciation for the people and places they encountered.</p>
<h3>How do you help support participants?&nbsp;</h3>

<p>I support participants by guiding them every step of the way—providing orientation, answering questions, and ensuring they feel safe, comfortable, and confident throughout their experience.&nbsp;</p>
<p>I offer practical help with local logistics, cultural guidance, and connections with the community so volunteers and travelers can focus on learning, contributing, and enjoying their time fully.</p>
<h3>Why is it important for people to travel abroad and experience new cultures?</h3>
<p>Traveling abroad is important because it opens your mind, broadens your perspective, and helps you understand different cultures and ways of life. It allows people to connect with new environments, learn from local communities, and create memories that last a lifetime.&nbsp;</p>
<p>Travel also encourages empathy, curiosity, and personal growth—showing us that the world is bigger, more diverse, and more inspiring than we often realize.</p>
<h3>What advice do you have for individuals thinking about going abroad?</h3>
<p>My advice for anyone thinking about going abroad is to go with an open mind and a willingness to learn. Be curious, ask questions, and immerse yourself in the local culture. Embrace new experiences, even if they are different from what you’re used to, and be ready to step out of your comfort zone.&nbsp;</p>

<p>To me, ethical global engagement means participating in ways that respect people, cultures, and the environment. It’s about learning from others without exploiting them, contributing positively to communities, and being mindful of the impact our actions have.&nbsp;</p>
<p>Ethical engagement encourages mutual understanding, responsibility, and sustainability—ensuring that travel or volunteer experiences benefit both participants and the communities they visit.</p>
<h3>What qualities in program &amp; host community relations are important to you? (And your organization?)</h3>
<p>For our organization and me, strong program and host community relations are built on trust, respect, and open communication. It’s important that volunteers and travelers feel welcomed and supported, while local communities are treated with dignity and their needs and voices are prioritized.&nbsp;</p>
<p>Collaboration, transparency, and cultural sensitivity ensure that programs create meaningful impact, foster genuine connections, and benefit everyone involved—participants and hosts alike.</p>

<h3>What inspired you to work for <a href=https://www.goabroad.com/providers/world-class-programs rel="" target="_self" class="link">World Class Programs</a>?</h3>

<p>The first trip I taught on with World Class Programs was to Osaka, Japan, in 2023. Having had a lifelong love of Japan and Japanese culture, I was very excited for the opportunity to teach the Manga and Anime art forms in the country where they were created.&nbsp;</p>
<p>I had already been teaching drawing and character design classes for several years, and greatly enjoyed helping my students to have those "lightbulb moments" when the concepts connect, and suddenly they're able to draw something they never could before.&nbsp;</p>
<p>But to do that in a setting where they're immersed in the culture and can interact with it up close? Outside the walls of a traditional classroom? That added a richness and depth to the experience, and I was able to bring the concepts to life in ways that weren't possible with my typical classes.</p>
<p>It's safe to say that after that summer, I was hooked! I'm excited to continue teaching on the Japan program and others in the years ahead.&nbsp;</p>
<h3>What advice would you tell your pre-travel self?</h3>
<p>Well, for one thing, I'd tell myself to pack lighter! And to be strong... but be excited!&nbsp;</p>
<p>I had no idea of the challenges I would face in planning a curriculum abroad and helping to facilitate a trip for the first time. But I was pleasantly surprised to find that I not only overcame those challenges but actually thrived in them and discovered a level of capability and confidence in myself that I had never known before.&nbsp;</p>
<p>I would also tell myself to be prepared to make some awesome friendships! The camaraderie we staff members built together was so much fun and led to some of my favorite memories. We've all learned how to flow really well as a team on our programs, so each time a new program starts, it just feels like getting back into the groove with your old pals.&nbsp;</p>
<h3>What is your favorite part of your job?</h3>
<p>Discovery—but that goes in two directions! I love introducing the students to the new country and showing them around. Even if I've done a thing multiple times before, like meeting the wild deer that roam around the city of Nara in Japan, it's still so fun to see their reactions as they experience it for the first time.&nbsp;</p>
<p>On the flip side, I love it when students discover something we have never heard of and tell us about it! We've learned about so many cool things thanks to student recommendations, and it always makes us smile to see that they got to have a completely unique experience because they were willing to step out and explore.&nbsp;</p>

<h3>Why should someone choose World Class Programs over competitors?</h3>
<p>When you travel with World Class Programs, it really feels like you're traveling with a little family group. We know it can be daunting to travel across the globe with people you may not have met before, so we do everything we can to create a fun and welcoming atmosphere.&nbsp;</p>
<p>Both at the beginning of the program and throughout, we build in activities that foster connection and teamwork, so that within a few days, the students are forming friendships. As staff, we also try to provide a personal touch. We know the cities we travel to very well, and we make a point to get our students familiar with their surroundings quickly so that it feels less like a far-off place and more like a home away from home.&nbsp;</p>
<p>We'll give students suggestions based on their interests in different local things they could see, food they could try, etc., so that the program experience feels more tailored to them.&nbsp;</p>
<h3>What is World Class Programs' mission, and how do you continue to work toward it?</h3>
<p>As an organization, our highest goal is to educate our students about the world through lived, hands-on experiences. You can learn a lot about a place or culture in a standard classroom setting, but to go and experience it yourself provides a whole new depth of understanding. It ignites curiosity and fosters compassion for humanity.&nbsp;</p>
<p>Additionally, we want to build confidence in our students that they can go beyond and succeed. We want them to experience the thrill of taking a step of independence and realizing that they are capable of more than they realized.&nbsp;</p>
<p>Whether that's talking to a local in their native language, navigating a new neighborhood, or trying a food they've never heard of before, all of these things teach them that they can overcome their nervousness and open them up to new possibilities!&nbsp;</p>
<h3>What hopes do you have for the future for World Class Programs?</h3>
<p>I certainly hope to see things grow! I'd love to see bigger groups and for us to be able to add new programs to countries we haven't previously visited. But more than anything, I want us to be able to continue giving students awesome experiences and memories that they'll cherish for years to come.&nbsp;</p>

<h3>What do you hope participants take away from your programs?</h3>
<p>In addition to having hands-on learning experiences in their country of interest, I really want students to experience a strengthening of their confidence. I've known so many young people who feel unsure of themselves, some of whom are struggling with a lot of anxiety.&nbsp;</p>
<p>In our programs, we create an atmosphere where students can step out but still have a safety net under them. Once they try something and realize that they can push past their fears, it unlocks a whole new mindset.&nbsp;</p>
<p>Our hope is that they take that newfound independence home with them and apply it to their everyday lives. That they can meet new challenges with confidence and have a more positive outlook towards themselves and their future.&nbsp;</p>
<h3>Why is it important for people to travel abroad and experience new cultures?</h3>
<p>It's wonderful to see that spark of connection when a student suddenly understands the significance of something in a culture—how their history influenced their art or cuisine, how the local geography influenced their architecture, that kind of thing. It imbues a greater sense of meaning to the world we live in, and compassion for the people we share it with.&nbsp;</p>
<p>You can get that to an extent from a class or a documentary, but there's still going to be a level of removal. When you experience it in person, it now becomes a part of you. This naturally causes you to care more—you see yourself less as a casual observer and more as an active participant in something bigger than you. You come away with a greater respect for others and hopefully an inspiration to make a positive impact through your own life.&nbsp;</p>
<h3>How do you help support participants?</h3>
<p>Prior to the programs, we provide students with materials to help them prepare for the trip and host an informational meeting for them and their families. We also make sure they know they can reach out to us with questions.&nbsp;</p>
<p>Once on the trip, we continue to keep that open line of communication and provide activities that help them become familiar with their surroundings and each other. Staff is available 24/7 to assist students with any needs that arise, and we keep parents informed as well to ensure we make the best possible care decisions for them.&nbsp;</p>
<p>It's very much a combined approach of empowering students with the knowledge and materials to resolve challenges that come up, while also being present with support and guidance when needed.&nbsp;</p>

<h3>What does meaningful travel mean to you?</h3>
<p>For me, meaningful travel is about truly understanding another part of the world, and hopefully enjoying it along the way! You get more out of life when you approach it with an attitude of curiosity.&nbsp;</p>
<p>Our programs are designed to provide a multifaceted experience with a country and its culture. We look at both historical and modern aspects and link the two to each other. We visit the famous tourist sights, but we also encourage students to go out and interact with the everyday local culture.&nbsp;</p>
<p>By giving them a sample of so many different things, our hope is that it would inspire them to go further, either to learn more about that country or to discover a new one. All of this gives them a greater appreciation for our world.&nbsp;</p>
<h3>What advice do you have for individuals thinking about going abroad?</h3>
<p>Do it! But be prepared! A little planning on the front end will go a long way to help you have a smooth, enjoyable experience.&nbsp;</p>
<p>Also, be realistic in thinking about where you want to go and why you want to go there.&nbsp;</p>
