This organization operates from Bulak, Dauin, Philippines, conducting long-term and fine-scale research on coral bleaching, corallivorous invertebrates, and ocean pollution. As they aim to involve the scientific community by publishing their findings in reports and journals, they also work to encourage and support locally-led, grassroots conservation strategies through evidence-based community outreach programs. They are a valuable asset to marine ecology in the Philippines and the furtherment of Marine Conservation Science worldwide. As an intern, you'll be assisting with the collection, processing & analysis of data from their Dauin Long-Term Reef Monitoring Project - going underwater research dives where you’ll catalog species, map habitats, & monitor biodiversity. You’ll also work on the data-analysis of images gathered using marine science software systems & equipment.

Join the Institute for Global Studies' Dive Shop / Reef Survey internship, and work with both local and foreign staff members. In this program, you’ll have the opportunity to become PADI dive certified or work toward the next level of training. In addition, you will assist staff members in all aspects of running a renowned dive shop as well as work on a marine research project. Activities will include assisting staff on dive excursions, helping to convey difficult concepts in the English language to guests, preparing gear for dives, constructing or delivering marketing materials, conducting reef surveys to assist reef management, and preparing brochures and the website to highlight threats to reef systems.

GVI offers a program that starts with a 12-week marine conservation expedition, helping you to develop your understanding of marine conservation and to further or establish your scuba diving skills. You will learn how to live and work with a research team in a remote environment and attain base skills essential for your internship the following 12 weeks. During the next phase, you will undertake your PADI Divemaster course, take further advanced training courses, shadow GVI staff, and assist with the running of the expedition. At the end of the 12-week placement, qualifying interns will either be offered paid or unpaid work with GVI or with one of our local partners. GVI is a PADI-endorsed Dive Training Provider and winner of the DAN Member's choice Award for Dive Safety.

Based at a PADI Platinum dive center on the beautiful Pacific coast of Costa Rica, this 4 or 10-week course trains you as a professional PADI Divemaster. Alongside your professional qualifications, you will gain skills and knowledge performing marine science research using underwater survey and data collection techniques.
