First and foremost, Awesome job alert!
If you’re a diehard traveler with an insatiable love for the written word then GOOD NEWS, you’ve made your way to the right corner of the internet. GoAbroad.com is recruiting new worldsmiths (get it!?), and we think YOU are a prime candidate to be our next travel writer.
Or are you?
It’s only day seven and we’ve already received dozens of apps! To help you stand out from the crowd and keep us from tossing your virtual resume to the wayside, follow these five insider tips. Here’s how to up your chances of landing a job at GoAbroad.com as a travel writer!
Tip #1. Don’t settle for generic.
We want to hear about your travel experiences. But we want those juicy, fun details too. Don’t just tell us “I studied in France, fall of 2012.” Add some descriptors please, and showcase that sparkling personality of yours!
In the fall of 2012, I ate 17 pounds of cheese, memorized hundreds of words de vocabulaire, and learned to navigate the metro like a pro while studying abroad in France.
Tip #2. Double check your social media accounts.
There’s nothing sadder than a Twitter account that hasn’t been updated since 2014 (okay, that might be a slight exaggeration). But fo’ real! Not only are we looking for you to HAVE a knack for social media, we want to make sure you are ACTIVE.
And while we’re on the subject, it’d be advantageous for your social media channels to talk more about travel and less about inside jokes. But....
Tip #3. Don’t just talk travel.
We’re not interested in hiring travelers who are racing around the planet, touristing up a storm, and leaving a path of destruction in their wake. We want to hire folks who travel responsibly, who do more than the sightseer-thang when they visit foreign countries.
We want travelers who have studied, volunteered, taught, worked, or interned abroad. Sure, adventure travel and globetrotting is a part of the whole sha-bang! But we are particularly excited about working with folks who share our TRUE love for meaningful travel.
Tip #4. Suggest unique article ideas.
Don’t you just hate it when you ask a potential hire to pitch an article idea and she or he proposes a topic that’s already live on your site? Do your homework, homies (FYI: That means browse our Article Directory).
Tip #5. Interact with GoAbroad.com’s social media
Pick your poison. Whether on Twitter, Facebook, Google+ (yeah, you read that right), Instagram, or all of the above, get on our social radar. Give us a shout out. Share an article we’ve recently published. Tag us! RT, DM, etc., you know the drill.
With these tips in mind, you’re bound to complete a killer application.
