Vegetable stamps

by Hazel B. Caballero

This is an activity I can remember from grade school. We were made to bring vegetables and watercolor for Art class. Our teacher cut our vegetables to reveal patterns from their cross sections. We dipped these cross sections in watercolor and stamped them on white paper. It's amazing to see how beautiful nature's patterns are. The best vegetables for this activity are: lady fingers (okra), bitter melons, onions, the rosettes at the base of a lettuce. You may also use lemons after the juice has been carefully squeezed out.
