Established in 2009 to promote and facilitate research and conservation in southern Mozambique, Zavora Lab has developed essential research for the region and raised environmental awareness through educational programs with local communities and visitors to the area. In 2013, we opened Mozdivers to provide diving courses to marine science students who wish to further their diving skills while acquiring marine biology training. Our interns get practical and theoretical training prior to actual underwater and land-based data collection. Interns assist with education projects, give talks, and activate fund-raising projects for environmental protection. Interns are part of a dedicated research station involving Manta Ray populations, Nudibranch diversity and distribution, artificial reef colonization, and the relative population of humpback whales.
