Youth Challenge International (YCI) is recruiting a team of five to eight volunteers between the ages of 18 and 35 with diverse skills, experiences and backgrounds for a six-week youth development project in Zanzibar this July 9 - August 20th, 2012.
This exciting opportunity will include a pre-project distance-learning program, followed by an intensive eight-week placement in Zanzibar. While in Zanzibar, you will work with YCI's partner organization ZANGOC - to further the reach and relevance of their youth development program.
Key Project Activities May Include:
* Work in conjunction with peer educators to design and implement small and/or large scale health outreach initiatives.
* Organize trainings for partners and peer educators on selected health topics including sexual and reproductive health, HIV/AIDS, nutrition and substance abuse.
* Work with partners and peer educators to design and implement vocational training materials to train local youth.
* Support local youth in CV/resume development, English language training and information communication technologies (ICT) training.
* In conjunction with partners, work to strengthen existing youth groups and income-generation groups with youth members by providing resources and tools.
* Build the capacity of YCI's partners to effectively engage in youth development and implement quality programs and services in Youth Health, Youth Livelihoods and Youth Leadership.
* Conduct outreach and mobilization activities targeted to disabled youth focused on livelihoods training including language, computer skills training.
* Youth-to-youth development
* Use edutainment as a key methodology to deliver programs

* Experience teaching English as a second language.
* Experience in facilitation and/or community mobilization.
* Training in business, NGO management, fundraising, and/or monitoring and evaluation.
* Training in law, governance, political science.
* Knowledge of basic computer programs; preferred advanced knowledge and experience developing/maintaining websites.
* Training in public health; experience leading health discussions; good knowledge of HIV/AIDS and other STIs.
* Experience working with people with disabilities; training in integration of people with disabilities.
* Experience with theatre and other community arts; experience in video production.
* Training in gender issues.
* Proven effectiveness in cross-cultural.
* Prior overseas experience an asset.
