  • Description

The Girls Clubs are an opportunity for girls and young women in rural villages in northwest India between the age of 12 and 21 to enjoy new experiences, become more self-aware, gain confidence and develop skills that will help them throughout their life. Though some of the girls who attend the clubs are enrolled in school or college, but they are still limited in their daily activities by their gender. Even simple activities that allow them to get out of the home or express themselves are small steps toward the larger goal of empowerment.

The main goal of Girls Club is to build a space for girls, in which they can identify with and express themselves outside their homes. The aim of Girls Club is to facilitate new and interesting opportunities for the girls, provide them with new skills, develop and deliver awareness and information workshops and help to support them to identify and take steps towards achieving their dreams.

Furthermore, we aim to integrate the Girls Club's with some of our other social projects. We have, for example, begun providing HIV/AIDS education in nearby secondary schools. Within the next year, we aim to expand the program to include a mentorship program (in which young Indian women work as mentors with the Girls Club) and to integrate the girls and women into the microfinance program by providing them with savings and credit assistance. Additionally, we want to expand this project to other locations in the area.

Extra skills required for the girls club project:
    - Studies, experience or a strong motivation in working with women and gender related issues
    - A dynamic, flexible, organized, creative, independent, strategic and dedicated work ethos
    - Good communication skills
    - The capacity to initiate and maintain a project with little resources
    - Experience in teaching is a plus
