  • Description

Earn a PADI Professional diving qualification in Australia. In ten weeks, obtain your PADI Open Water, Advanced Open Water, Rescue Diver, Respond Right First Aid and Divemaster qualifications. Dive with stunning marine life including rays, turtles, sharks and over five hundred other species in the world's largest marine park and one of Australia's top ten dive sites. Make new friends on your gap year in Australia and possibly get the chance of a job offer. If you have scuba diving qualifications already then don't worry, we can modify the course to suit your needs.

Want to learn to scuba dive in Australia and get a professional qualification? Or dreamed of travelling around the world and working along the way? Or perhaps even want to learn to dive in the clear waters of Australia in sea temperatures of over twenty degrees surrounded by over five hundred marine species? If so then this course is for you!

Your home for this scuba diving PADI professional course is Byron Bay, located on the East Coast of Australia and quoted by the Lonely Planet as "an asset worth bottling in its own right". Byron Bay is famous for its beautiful beaches and world class surf, so when you're not diving you can always learn to surf and make the most of one of Australia's pristine marine parks. You will be living at the dive centre, which is just a few minutes' walk to Byron Bay's vibrant town and beach. If you have dive qualifications already then don't worry, we can adjust the course accordingly (see 'full trip itinerary' for more information).

You will begin your ten weeks diving adventure by doing the PADI Open Water diving qualification. This will be in the form of theory lessons and practical pool sessions, followed by six open water dives. You will then progress on to the PADI Advanced Open Water where you will complete ten different topics, such as the deep diver, underwater navigation, boat dive, buoyancy control and many more. For each of these specialities, you will spend time with the instructor learning the theory and then putting it to good use during your dives. Moving onto the Respond Right First Aid and O2 Administration course, you will learn about primary care such as CPR, rescue breathing etc. as well as secondary care, which includes bandaging, splints, injury assessment etc. In addition, participants learn about how to administer oxygen.

With these qualifications under your diving belt, you will move onto PADI Rescue Diver where you will learn about self aid and how to assist fellow divers. Subjects include stress management, controlling a panicking diver and dealing with unconscious divers. You will then progress onto the Divemaster qualification, which is about two weeks of lectures on subjects ranging from physics to physiology, along with dives, assessments and working with the instructors to improve your skills. The final part of the ten week adventure will see you completing your apprentiship, where you will gain experience assisting new divers and teaching speciality courses, all the under guidance of a highly qualified instructor. This is an excellent opportunity to hone your skills and obtain as much information as you can from your seasoned dive instructor.

Days will be long and often hard work, but the resulting satisfaction of gaining a Divemaster qualification in some of the most beautiful dive spots in the world will make all the hard graft all the more worthwhile!
