This is a hostel in a great location, with friendly staff and a nice pool. Its facilities need a spruce-up, with signs of concrete cancer at top of steps, cleaning of windows, quieter air-con in our room (31), lounge chairs (not bags) in TV room, fresh paint, free wi-fi instead of a charge, cheaper rates for double and twin rooms (some motels are cheaper!) and why not a free transfer to airport?
friendly and helpful (female)staff/location (close to Greyhound/Coles/restaurants)/quiet neg:aircon in double-room is unbearable loud/pool dirty and often closed/facilities need to be freshened up/double-room very basic(no chair,no closet) and too expensive/kitchen could be better equipped. Though I'd recommend the YHA for its location, but only for a short term stay
Somehow no one knew about my resv. and consequently it was a bit of a hassle (pay phone didn't work, numerous heavy bags etc.) to get picked up at the Greyhound stop. Once we got that sorted out, things were great, no more hassles. I loved the decor, my 4-share dorm, the staff, the convenence of the location, the town itself.
Only complaint would be noise. As the dorm rooms were at one end of the block that our room was in and the toilets/showers at other end there was constant people traffic outside our room throughout the night which made sleep difficult.
Didn't live up to the hype. Nice enough hostel, but mattresses quite thin and bathroom in particular is getting old and could do with a reno. Music was played quite loud from about midday to 11pm - was a welcome relief when it was quiet one afternoon. Need more clothes line space. Very much a party atmosphere; not the place to go if you want peace. Good location, courtesy bus and helpful staff.
Free beer on arival and free breakfast was good. Good price considering Broome's rip of hotel prices. No air con working but big fan was good. Could have done without the large cockroach but it was only one. Overall I enjoyed my stay. Pool was nice too.
This hostel has good facilities and is well kept, but it is an addition to a broader motel and pub complex so it lacks that hostel atmosphere. It is conveniently located and the facilities are good. I wouldn't want to try the top bunks though - the ones in our room were very rickety. Fortunately we didn't have anyone trying to use the top bunks.
Really noisy at night. Many of the room have windows to the common area where loud drunk people were having loud conversations or yelling at the TV. Turning on the loud airconditioning macheins was the only way to drown out the noise. On the plus side, the amenities were great with a large kitchen with ample cooking space.
I stayed during Masters (Boozing?) Games but had a bicycle tour leaving 7 AM so my experience wasn't typical. One bed left, so I had to book dorm; the alternative was camping 4K away or $300 hotel. If the loud snoring didn't keep me awake, the party outside did, and the staff were VERY helpful & understanding in letting me move to alternative quarters. Pool, kitchen, laundry, security all good.
The hostel stay was great and the 3 day, 2 night tour to Ayers Rock, The Olgas and Kings Canyon booked through the YHA was tremendous.
