  • Description

As a WorldTeach volunteer, you will play a critical role in Namibia's implementation of computer technology in schools. WorldTeach has formed partnerships with Namibia's National Institute for Educational Development (NIED) and SchoolNet, a local non-profit with the mission of bringing the Internet to Namibian schools. While SchoolNet secures computer equipment and wires schools to make them Internet-ready, NIED is responsible for determining how Information and Communication Technology (ICT) can best be taught within the school curriculum. You will be among the first to train teachers using the newly developed computer literacy curriculum and you will lead computer literacy trainings for learners and teachers at primary and secondary schools to develop their basic computer skills.

  • Highlights

Because ICT training is done primarily after school, you will have the chance to become involved with your school and community in a variety of areas. Many choose to teach HIV/AIDS awareness classes, subject classes (as based on the needs of the school), athletics, and work remedially with learners that need extra assistance in certain areas, like reading. Placements range from urban placements to small towns to fairly remote village schools spanning the entire country.

Your fee enables us to provide a variety of important services, not the least of which is finding someone like you who is qualified and willing to serve as a teacher in an under-resourced school in a developing country. Aside from that one all-important service to our partner countries, however, WorldTeach services are primarily designed to support you, the volunteer. Whether it is pre-departure preparation, in-training and support, or help in the case of an emergency, all of these services are provided in an effort to enhance your safety and security while enabling you to become the most effective teacher that you can be.
