Location
Mongolia
Program Duration
5-8 weeks
Dates
22nd August 2011 to 19th September 2012
This expedition involves a 5-day trip from Ulaanbaatar (the capital of Mongolia) to Khovd (the destination city where you will be teaching English) where you will see much of Mongolia along the way. During this time you will get to visit Kharkorium, the ancient capital of Mongolia. You will also get to visit Tsenkher hot springs, Khorgo crater and take the odd camel ride.
Once in Khovd, you will spend your weekdays teaching English to the locals, thinking up exciting and innovative lesson plans and sleeping in traditional Mongolian gers. In countries such as Mongolia being able to speak English is extremely useful, however, few people are given the chance to learn. The ability to speak English opens up possible jobs in the tourist industry, enables locals to participate in international business or have a profession as a translator. Teaching a child or an adult to speak English in Mongolia could really turn somebody's life around and allow them to look after their family and create a career for themselves.
Please contact us for availability, photos from previouse trips and more.
You will get the enjoyment and satisfaction of teaching English to the local Mongolians who are very enthusiastic to learn and further their knowledge. Learning a common language such as English will open up many opportunities for the locals which will help them and their families to further their careers.
As well as the many opportunities to sight-see on your travels to Khovd, you will also be able to spend your weekends doing additional activities that allow you to really take advantage of the area where you are staying and learn all about the traditional Mongolian lifestyle. You will get to see Black Water Lake, the North Blue Mount Cave, Tsambagaray National Park, visit the Golden Eagle trainers and much more. This is not only a great opportunity to learn how to teach, but also to make new friends and discover much about yourself that you didn't know before.
No qualifications are needed for this position as all training will be provided, however, it is necessary to be able to speak English fluently.

yes
This expedition is really open to anybody with a decent grasp of the English language. It is not necessary for you to speak any Mongolian but learning a few basic words before you come wouldn't go amiss. Although some of the extra activities may require a moderate level of fitness, the expedition requirements themselves are fairly low. There is an easy 15-minute walk to and from the university but there are also many taxis and potential friends to give you lifts. The temperature can reach minus degrees, and the washing and toilet facilities are limited. Please be aware that although every effort is made to ensure your comfort and that all the necessities are available, this is far from 5-star accommodation. At WildVenture we like to be as inclusive as possible, therefore if you are concerned about any aspect of the project requirements, please do not hesitate to contact us and we will do our best to accommodate you. None of the extra activities are compulsory therefore there should be very few people who feel they could not have a wonderful experience on this expedition.
