  • Description

Help research and conserve the rare and endangered Bog Fritillary, found only on Mt. Stara Planina, investigate the possibility of new colonies and increase public awareness, all whilst located in the rich nature and stunning beauty of this protected National Park on the Serbian / Bulgarian border.

Explore some of this undiscovered landscape and the species that still live within it.

  • Highlights

This expedition is one of the first butterfly monitoring projects in Serbia. You will learn the methods of butterfly marking and releasing in order to make population size estimations. Since it is supposed that not all populations of the Bog Fritillary are known, you might be the first one to discover new colonies and in this way contribute to the survival of the species in Serbia. During your stay you will learn how to recognize other butterfly species, mostly focusing on "target species", which are the rarest and most endangered.
