    - Help Documented Indigenous wildlife animals, plants & Herbs & their usage
    - Learn the local language; participate in cultural activities of the local people
    - Create and improve guide trails through Gurkha district & the Himalayas

Option 2: Environment Action Awareness & Conservation

This volunteer conservation in Nepal program aims to raise awareness of environment conservation by teaching environmental topics in village schools and youth clubs woman's group. As for the adult people, it will provide them with an orientation on issues of Garbage & waste management and sanitation, building smokeless stove, pit latrines, paper recycling etc. This will hopefully act as a stimulation to create gardens.

Your duties as an Environment & Conservation Volunteer
    - Work on a rewarding Environmental & Conservation projects in Chitwan and Pokhara
    - Work in Implementing a campaign for stop animal poaching in a community Buffer zone park
    - Help in Educating Local's & School Children about the Importance of the Environment Conservation program
    - Work with the community forest development committee and promote the equitable and proper management of meagre forest resources.

Option 3: Teach English in a Government School and Buddhist Monasteries

Thousands of children are deprived of educational opportunities in Nepal because of many social issues and the lack of schooling opportunities. In this program volunteers are placed in Government, community & Simi Private or boarding schools to teach English to Nepali children. As a Volunteer in this program you may be working as the sole teacher in the classroom or in partnership with a Nepali teacher. You may also find that due to the number of Teaching English volunteers that you will be the sole volunteer in a placement. In some schools Nepali teachers will step down in order for you to take their classes, we do not encourage this and strongly recommend that volunteers work in partnership with Nepali teachers to introduce new practical teaching methods to the classroom that can be carried on after your placement.

Your duties as a Teaching Volunteer
    - Teach English and art in Nepal to a remote communities
    - Paint & plastering old orphanage home and school
    - Teach children/youngsters/ woman's group about basic hygiene
    - Play /sport coaching in Government school or at the community centre

Option 4: Child Care Orphanage in Nepal

Volunteering at an orphanage in Nepal will give you a unique opportunity to make a real contribution to Nepali society, while simultaneously experiencing the rich culture and difference aspects of urban and rural life in Nepal. The work will vary for each orphanage as some will require you to be available to teach whereas others you will not have this opportunity. When you arrive at your assigned orphanage you will talk to the onsite staff and they will run through your particular responsibilities. Often there will be a volunteer in your placement who has started in a previous month and they are an excellent source of information and direction.

    Your Duties as a Volunteer
It is necessary that volunteers are flexible and willing to adapt to situations as they happen. Volunteers cannot predict what each day may bring. Those Volunteers that are placed where they will teach should expect to do so for a full day. There may be a lot more planning required of them compared to those volunteers where the orphaned children attend local schools.

Volunteers work 6 days a week and from 4 to 6 hours a day.

  • WAVA's Mission Statement

WAVA's Responsible Travel policy is its mission statement. It's not an ideology. It is not a cast-iron set of rigid guidelines and procedures. Rather, it is a spectrum of principles and concepts that promote co-operation and learning not only by those in the London office, but also with all other parties involved - travellers, partners and host communities - ensuring each can mutually benefit. We do our best to understand our travellers' needs, responsibly preparing them to have great experiences, and we produce content that accurately informs our travellers of what they can expect to encounter when abroad.
