Teaching in Hong Kong

China
Share |

Location
China: Hong Kong

Length of Position
1-2 years

  • Description

We are now accepting applications for the school year 2010-2011. Most schools in Hong Kong offer minimum of two-year teaching contracts. Short-term contracts, such as summer terms, or six-month terms, are available on Mainland China. There are only 9 Universities in Hong Kong, as opposed to many more in mainland China; therefore the competition is much greater in Hong Kong. The class size in Hong Kong is between 30-37 students. There are positions available for all levels of school from primary to graduate courses.

A foreign teacher's airfare is generally provided, as is a medical allowance for insurance purposes. The standard of living in Hong Kong is higher than Mainland China, but a higher salary is the trade off. This salary must be used for all living expenses, including housing and food.

Often, couples like to experience this adventure together and we at WSIEA can help to accommodate for that. We can often arrange for couples to work in the same school or nearby schools. Accommodations would be shared. Children are also welcome to accompany their parents to Hong Kong, but their educational needs are not included and they will often need to study at private International schools.

The deadline for applying to teach in Hong Kong for terms beginning in September is January 19 of that year. At that time, all reference letters, copies of diplomas and certificates, completed application, and visa documents must be completed. If you have missed this year's deadline we recommend applying early to be on the waiting list for next year.

Thank you for your interest in WSIEA and teaching English in Hong Kong. It is a beautiful city and easy to see why so many people are interested in teaching there. If Hong Kong is your primary interest please begin the application process by sending necessary documents.
