Eight courses are required for the certificate. The courses can be taken in any order and do not have to be completed within a certain time period. The TESL certificate program can be taken online or on-campus:
- On-campus classes are offered at the Washington Academy of Languages at City University of Seattle in the fall, winter, and spring as five-week courses meeting two nights a week. Students attending full time during the school year can complete the program in six months.
- The online environment offers a unique and beneficial learning situation. Because of the ability to research before posting to discussions, conversations are more meaningful. Also, the 24-hour access to the online environment offers convenient access for students in the U.S. and abroad. Online classes last for 10 weeks and are offered all year. The online program may be completed in 9 to 12 months, depending on how many classes are taken at once.
- In summer, all eight courses can be taken in our intensive series. The intensive courses consist of weeklong classes offered on the City University of Seattle campus. Students can take a few courses in the summer, or all eight. The deadline for enrollment is the Friday at noon before each course.
