Description

Volunteers in the Teaching program work in primary and secondary schools in and around the region of Arusha. The schools are short of well trained staff and need the assistance of volunteers for teaching children.

As a volunteer your main role would be to work as a teacher assistant in the placement and assist the current teachers and staff. Volunteers teach English, Maths, Geography and Science to the students.Volunteers can bring with you interesting teaching materials, books, stationary, flash cards and games which will help you in teaching students. Volunteers work for 5-6 hrs in a day for 5 days in a week.

During the school holiday periods, volunteers have the option of working in orphanage schools.

Highlights

Volunteering Solutions provides volunteer placements in and around Arusha city in Northern Tanzania. Arusha is surrounded by some of Africa's most famous landscapes and national parks. Situated below Mount Meru on the eastern edge of the eastern branch of the Great Rift Valley, it has a mild climate and is close to Serengeti, Ngorongoro Crater, Lake Manyara, Olduvai Gorge, Tarangire National Park, and Mount Kilimanjaro, as well as having its own Arusha National Park on Mount Meru.

The area is very popular among the tourists especially those taking safaris as well as climbing Mt. Meru or Mt. Kilimanjaro.

Qualifications

Volunteers must be 17 years or older at the beginning of the program. Volunteers need to have an open mind and flexible attitude for working in a new and different environment. The volunteer should bring energy and enthusiasm to make a difference.
