Based on the beautiful Wild Coast of South Africa, Volunteer Africa 32 Degrees South is a volunteer organization running projects in education & conservation. We not only provide volunteers with a life changing experience, but deliver real outcomes for learners in our participating rural schools and truly add value to the communities that we work alongside.
Wild Coast Rural Schools Programme
The Wild Coast Schools programme is our pioneering initiative within which we work hand in hand with learners in rural township schools to deliver basic computer literacy lessons on a daily basis. Volunteers will work in one of three Primary schools which are equipped with computer labs built & set up by previous volunteers & VA staff. The curriculum they teach is structured around an eco-schools programme which is designed to raise learners awareness of the environment and the world around them. By delivering consistent lessons the volunteers also support learners in improving their basic English skills.
In addition to the computer literacy programme volunteers run an after school sports initiative. This initiative is headed by two of our local staff Tobs & Milton who will support volunteers in running sports games & tournaments. All sports are welcome & the kids love to see volunteers outside of the classroom to run around!
In addition to our computer literacy & sports programmes, there are additional opportunities to become involved in community projects such as
*Project Clean-up
*Adult Computer Literacy Class
*Conscious Cinema
(The community development projects change regularly according to current needs in the Chintsa community).
The Wild Coast Schools Project is one of the first volunteer projects in the world to be endorsed by Fair Trade in Tourism South Africa (FTTSA). For more information on this please visit our website.
Conservation Programme at Inkwenkwezi Private Game Reserve
The VA32 programme is based in a commercial Game Reserve on the Wild Coast of South Africa, where volunteers live and work for the duration of their stay. The project offers volunteers the opportunity to go "behind the scenes" and see the workings of a commercial game reserve.
Volunteers will partake in a range of activities that will include:
* Fence patrols for snares and other threats to wildlife
* Alien vegetation and soil erosion control
* Game counts and wildlife monitoring
* Environmental lectures and wildlife management skills
* African night out under the stars
Various other activities that may be experienced include:
* Boma building for animal release
* Game capture and release
* Animal rehabilitation work when necessary
* Game relocation
