  • Description

    Volunteers will be teaching English in the Preschools, Elementary Schools, High Schools and a Monastery project in Phonphisai, Nongkhai, Thailand. These schools do not have the funding to employ native English speaking teachers. Many primary and secondary schools in the local area are in need of volunteers who can speak English. The teachers greatly appreciate having English speakers assist them in teaching. Learning English gives Thai students greater opportunities for their future. Your role is to plan creative English lessons and activities for the students. You will be involved in helping with pronunciation and conversation in the classes. These plans will help you to cultivate relationships with the students, teachers and villagers who live in Ban Thin Dung.

  • Highlights

    You will be volunteering in the small town of Phonphisai in the Nongkhai province, known to all Thai people as the place of the Naga Festival. The last full moon in October signifies the end of Buddhist Lent; at this time the Naga, a seven headed snake/fish that lives in the river blows fireballs into the air. A festival is built around this strange phenomenon. People come from all over Thailand to watch the fireballs. Life in this little village is quite peaceful and very typical of the region. As a volunteer based in Phon Phisai you will undoubtedly become part of the community because our project is located right in the middle of Ban Thin Dung village. The village lies 3km west of Phonphisai Town center and is a short ride on the bus from Nongkhai town. Volunteers can choose to teach in Phon Phisai during the week and spend weekends in Nongkhai town, or alternatively you may wish to spend your weekends in Ban Thin Dung taking part in the numerous local activities.

    uVolunteer anticipates and encourages your desire for travel and adventure. Your time away from volunteering is open for you to decide your activities. You may decide to take advantage of the local culture and spend time within the community over the weekend. Otherwise, there is ample opportunity to explore Thailand and all it has to offer.

    Great weekend trips include:
    * Go-Kart Track
    * Trek in national parks
    * Visit waterfalls
    * Play community sports: Mekong beach soccer, River boat racing, and aerobic dancing
    * Thai massage / Yoga lessons
