  • Description

    The goal of this project is to provide community development assistance to the schools of Nepal. Volunteers will create activities, games, and projects to teach and encourage increased vocabulary. Volunteers will assist the staff in teaching English to the students and help ensure success in their future; as learning English is becoming very important in the Nepali culture. The class sizes can range from 20 to 50 students. Volunteers are in the best position to most effectively and efficiently provide the advocacy so critical for our children in need. You will be working as the sole teacher in the classroom or in partnership with a Nepali teacher. Sometimes you will work with other volunteers in the same placement. Volunteers work in partnership with Nepali teachers to introduce new practical teaching methods to the classroom that can be carried on after your placement. Working in partnership will also provide volunteers the opportunity to learn from others as well. You will also plan creative English lessons and activities for the students. These plans will help you to cultivate relationships with the students and other staff members.

  • Highlights

    There are 3 project locations: Kathmandu, Chitwan, and Pokhara. Your placement is dependent on when you apply and how long you're staying.

    * Kathmandu: Placements in Kathmandu are just 30-45 minutes away from the main tourist area. Kathmandu is the vibrant capital city of Nepal, and has a wide range of restaurants, internet cafes, clubs, shopping centers, and banks. You will have numerous opportunities to explore the sites during free time.

    * Chitwan: The flora and fauna of Chitwan makes it a great place for nature lovers. Chitwan has over 50 different species of mammals, 400 different species of birds, and 65 different types of butterflies. More than 70 different species of grass grow here. The most famous wildlife in Chitwan is perhaps the single-horned Asian rhinoceros.

    * Pokhara: If Kathmandu is the cultural hub of Nepal, Pokhara is the center of adventure. An enchanting city nestled in a tranquil valley; it is the starting point for many of Nepal's most popular trekking and rafting destinations.

    uVolunteer believes that you should have a well balanced work and play schedule. This means you will only be required to work 5 days per week (Monday to Friday) for a maximum of 6 hours per day. For the remainder of your time, you will be free to enjoy the vacationing aspects of your trip.

    uVolunteer anticipates and encourages your desire for travel and adventure. Your time away from volunteering is open for you to decide your activities. You may decide to take advantage of the local culture and spend time within the community over the weekend. Otherwise, there is ample opportunity to explore Nepal and all it has to offer.

    Great weekend trips include:
    * Trekking
    * Rafting
    * Bungee Jumping
    * Safaris
    * Site Seeing
    * Kayaking
    * Paragliding
