This program is designed for students who wish to experience all that a beautiful Spanish city on the Mediterranean has to offer, while studying the Spanish language and the complexities of Spanish and contemporary European societies. The USAC program is located at the 30,000 student University of Alicante. While enrolled, USAC students enjoy privileges accorded local students at the University of Alicante, such as activities, student clubs, and organizations.
The summer Alicante Program offers two sessions, a five-week session and a four-week session with the option of a four-day visit to Madrid. This program is ideal for those unable to participate in semester or yearlong programs. Students may combine intensive Spanish language courses and elective courses for a minimum of 3 credits and a maximum of 6 credits per summer session. A sailing course is also offered in the summer for students to take full advantage of living so close to the Meditteranean sea.
Alicante is the seaside, year-round resort home to sandy white beaches, wide beautiful boulevards, fine cuisine and many historical and cultural attractions. With its sunny climate, beautiful beaches, tall mountains, and rich culture and nightlife, it has become one of the most popular destinations in Spain. The area enjoys hot summers and the sunniest winters in all of Europe.
People in Alicante live most of their life outdoors as part of the Mediterranean lifestyle: busy cafés, vibrant nightlife, street markets, and local festivals are abundant. The campus is also one of the most beautiful in Spain, with lovely gardens, fountains, palm trees, and modern architecture. All of these factors create a great learning and social atmosphere for USAC students.
In addition to opening an academic window on the Spanish people, through field trips and integration into the university and community life, this program allows you to personally experience the richness of Spanish culture.
