  • Description

Osaka is located in central Japan, near the historical cities of Kyoto and Kobe. Osaka is the center of finance, trade and cultural exchange in western Japan, making it the perfect place for students who are interested in studying Japanese business, history, language and society. Osaka is an eclectic blend of the old, the new and the totally unique, since Osaka's ports have linked the city to the rest of the world for the past 1,400 years. Osaka functioned as the nations capital in ancient times, and its distinctive history has given birth to unique types of traditional art, entertainment, and cuisine. Kobe is the sixth largest city in Japan and is a prominent port city. Located between the sea and the Rokko mountain range, Kobe is considered one of Japans most attractive cities. USAC students can also broaden their East Asia focus through additional study of the language and society of Korea and China at the Kwansei Gakuin University. The university offers these programs in hopes of promoting a better understanding of the cultural, social and economic aspects of Japan and its neighbors.

  • Highlights

Students can choose from a wide range of courses including Japan studies, Japanese language and culture studies and China and Korea studies. The relaxing Kwansei Gakuin University campus that students attend for a semester or year is surrounded by hills, trees and streams in this unique, historical city. Homestays with traditional and non-traditional local families allow students to obtain an insider's perspective into Japanese life. Fieldwork opportunities in China and Korea, along with field trips and internships enrich each student's experience outside of the classroom by working and exploring Asia hands-on.
