The USAC programs in Spain open an academic window on the Spanish and Basque people, introducing you to the rich diversity of the Iberian Peninsula. As a USAC student you have the opportunity to study intensive Spanish or Basque and to take elective courses in English or Spanish in a variety of subjects such as European Union, Spanish Culture and Civilization, Art History, International Environmental Health, Contemporary Spanish Cinema, and Foundations of Western Culture. The USAC program is located at the University of the Basque Country in Bilbao/Getxo, an affluent community popular for its beaches and lively nightlife. The programs include field trips for USAC students to areas of interest in and around the Basque Country as well as an optional tour of Madrid. Qualified students participating in the Bilbao/Getxo program may apply for program internships for which you earn academic credit.
The USAC summer program in Bilbao allows students to live and study in Bilbao/Getxo for as little as three weeks or six weeks. During their stay student can take classes in Spanish, International Business, Art or Culture. Students also have an opportunity to attend a field study course in Madrid before their program starts.
The USAC program in Bilbao/Getxo, popular for its beaches, lively nightlife and diverse cultural activities, gives you the opportunity to study intensive Spanish or Basque - up to two years of university language requirements may be met in one semester. This program also offers complementary elective courses taught in English or Spanish. Both Bilbao and Getxo (where most of the housing placements are located) are situated in an area of beautiful green mountains that face the ocean, making it possible to hike in the morning and go swimming in the afternoon. Close by, there are several picturesque coastal towns with great beaches that are easily accessible by public transportation.
