The Ghana program offers an opportunity for students to live and study in the heart of West Africa. Participants are totally integrated at the University of Ghana with native Ghanaians while experiencing the culture, learning about the country and making friends. You may enroll in a traditional African studies program or choose from a wide array of courses taught in English at the University of Ghana. There are also several courses specifically designed to introduce participants to the country and culture - Introduction to Fante Twi Language (a major local tribal language), and Society, Government and Politics in Ghana and Africa.
Ghana is one of the most popular destinations in all of Africa. This is, in part, due to its political, economic and social stability. It has tropical beaches and big game wildlife. It is home to several major tribal cultures, has significant historical slave trade sites and an active music scene. In short, it has a little of everything making it the perfect destination for the student who wants to learn about the complex issues facing a typical developing African nation. At the same time, it provides a rich cultural, historical and social experience.
